Anybody have a problem with calling the Cleveland Indians spring training facility a "subsidized" entity?

Winter Haven is the hometown of Charles Owens, a football player for Illinois State. Rodney Brown, Lashonda Brown, and Roger Demosthenes all resided in the town in 2007. Demosthenes family resided here from 1980's to Y2K.—Preceding unsigned comment added by {} (talk • contribs)

In general, "notable residents" need to have their own Wikipedia articles (to establish their notability) and reliable sources establishing residency to be included in an article about a place. -- Donald Albury 21:03, 20 September 2007 (UTC) reply

John A. Snively

Does anyone have more information about John A. Snively and Snively Groves? How about the big fire in the 1950s that destroyed the packing plant? -- Bejnar ( talk) 22:45, 15 February 2008 (UTC) reply

Notables

Enjoyed checking out the links to WH-connected people, some of whom I've met. But several of the notable people from WH listed here don't seem to have any connection to the town.

Wade Davis - Canadian. Danny Ellis - the one linked here is from Ireland, not a golfer.

Several labeled with other nearby towns seems to belong in THOSE towns, not WH. Not to be a wet blanket, but their should be legitimate connections to Winter Haven. I'd "be bold" and delink them, but perhaps the one who put them here meant to link them elsewhere. - Nhprman 04:44, 3 September 2010 (UTC) reply

I'm going to go ahead and be bold. If they were born in Winter Haven or lived in WH for a substantial period or went to school in WH (raised in WH) or currently live in WH- if even one of those is applicable then someone could make an argument, but many of those have no connection with WH. Perhaps they belong in Polk County's list of notable people, but not here. VictorianMutant ( talk) 09:37, 4 September 2010 (UTC) reply

What happened to the News Chief?

A recent edit deleted one local paper and inserted another. Wanted to ask if there is a reason why this was done before I revert the edit (or simply add back the News Chief) Lakemirror ( talk) 20:13, 18 June 2017 (UTC) reply

The News Chief is still sold on newsracks and available online. Looks like the Sun is a new paper in town, though, and the edit was probably spam. AHeneen ( talk) 05:16, 21 June 2017 (UTC) reply
