Confusion regarding similar-sounding places

Hi there,

We had someone email in to us with the following:-

The location 'Waipio' given, in this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waipio,_Hawaii is an error. The place name should read 'Waipahu.' Waipio is on the Windward side of the island of Hawai'i - not on O'ahu. Waipahu is on O'ahu.

I admit to being nothing close to an expert on Hawaiian geography, so I will defer to someone elses knowledge on this. If anyone who is interested could look into this and make any necessary changes, that'd be great.

Nope, not an error. There is a Waipio on Oahu, although some would say that it is within Waipahu.
There is even a Costco in Waipio: Find a Costco warehouse (search for Waipio, HI location)
It is common for a place name to appear on more than one island, such as Kailua, Honolulu County, Hawaii & Kailua, Hawaii County, Hawaii & Kailua, Maui County, Hawaii. One can find a number of the same town name on different islands in the List of places in Hawaii.

Not done. The coordinates in the article appear to be correct. If you still think that there is an error, please explain in more detail what is wrong. Deor ( talk) 11:38, 20 November 2014 (UTC) reply
