Demographics

"The Outer Sunset — and especially Parkside — is regarded by the city's political observers as being one of the more conservative communities in San Francisco. Collectively, the area's residents are less likely to be in favor of gay marriage and rent control than voters in other parts of the city, and favor stricter policies toward the homeless."

Interesting. Source? Archon Wing 21:24, 31 December 2006 (UTC) reply

I would support deleting that para, since it's not true, and has no source anyway! I will do the honors, unless someone can back that up (I doubt it!). -- Tangerine5000 21:33, 31 December 2006 (UTC) (Sunset resident) reply

Well I guess after a bit of google search, there are quite a few results that support it. It'd be nice, for there to be a footnote to the source though. Being a Sunset resident myself, I didn't really notice, but I could definitely think of a reason or two. Archon Wing 01:57, 2 January 2007 (UTC) reply

Yes, I guess it could be true, to some degree, but I don't think Fiona Ma is particularly conservative (not sure about Ed Jew)... If there were some evidence from election results showing that district 4 was strongly in favor of something relevant that a known-to-be-liberal district was strongly against, or vice versa, that would be convincing...-- Tangerine5000 03:42, 2 January 2007 (UTC) reply

As someone who has lived in, and voted in, the Sunset, I'd say it is certainly more conservative than the rest of The City. The sentences in question do not say it's conservative on a nationwide scale (the Sunset is probably still more liberal than the rest of the state even), but among communities citywide. Comparing supervisors like Fiona Ma, Tony Hall and Leland Yee to the rest, the Sunset comes up as more conservative than almost any other neighborhood. I've added that bit back, with links to articles in the Chronicle and Call mentioning the conservative tilt of area. -- skew-t 07:07, 4 February 2007 (UTC) reply

As another resident of the Sunset, I would have to agree. There are a large number of older, first generation Chinese immigrants that live in the area that hold conservative, traditional viewpoints. I remembered support for Prop 8 last year amongst the older population here.. however the youth generally seem to hold more liberal-leaning ideologies. It'll be an interesting thing to watch in the next 20-30 years. 68.121.61.211 ( talk) 08:50, 15 July 2010 (UTC) reply

Supervisorial Districts of the Sunset

We actually don't have District 5 -- See the detailed map and narrative descriptions of each district here: http://www.sfgov.org/site/bdsupvrs_index.asp?id=4385 -- Shoshoni 14:23, 8 June 2007 (UTC) reply

I live in the Inner Sunset just below the park, and I'm in the tail end of District 5.
But from that map, it looks like a lot more of the Sunset is District 7 than 5.

Check out the "Full District Map" link on that page for detail. The Inner Sunset is definitely in district 5, and perhaps just a block or so in district 7 (Judah to Kirkham from 9th to 19th). Otherwise from the description set as starting at 19th, I think district 7 is more the West of Twin Peaks neighborhood and Merced Manor than the Sunset. -- skew-t 22:38, 8 June 2007 (UTC) reply

San Francisco State University

The article says that SF State is in the "southwestern corner of the neighborhood across from Lake Merced." Southwestern corner of WHAT neighborhood? I live in San Francisco, and SF State is clearly NOT in the Sunset District. 69.181.41.173 ( talk) 04:32, 20 January 2013 (UTC) reply

SF State is somewhere in between the Lakeside and Ingleside districts. 69.181.41.173 ( talk) 04:35, 20 January 2013 (UTC) reply

Okay, so we know all about where SFSU is NOT -- now, how about where it IS! Whatever else it might be "in between," it must IN one neighbourhood or another. Jesu Pete!
