How wide is each "seat" in the stadium?
Azsun7777 02:12, 4 September 2007 (UTC)reply
Current article has slightly contradictory figures about current seating capacity. The list of upgrades results in a figure that is within a few hundred seats of the "current capacity" at top, but is not the same as that number.--

Oppose. While "
Mountain America Stadium" may now be the
WP:OFFICIALNAME, the article should be titled with the
WP:COMMONNAME. "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it generally prefers the name that is most commonly used". No evidence given that this sponsorship name is in common use.
Mountain America Stadium is the new name, once the upcoming football season begins, many news articles will call the stadium Mountain America Stadium. This is similar to the name change of Willis Tower in Chicago, Illinois. Willis Tower is the official name, but many people; especially many locals call it the Sears Tower. Should we change the name Willis Tower article to Sears Tower?
This is an Arizona example, when the Arizona Diamondbacks stadium changed their name from Bank One Ballpark to Chase Field; many locals for a while referred stadium as the former name instead of current name.
An ASU example, when the ASU basketball changed named from Wells Fargo Arena to Desert Financial Center, many locals and students call and still call the arena as Wells Fargo Arena. Sometimes it’s better to call the Wikipedia Article by the Official name than it’s common name even if the locals don’t call it by the official name.
Also, the official name of the stadium is not “Mountain America Stadium, Home of the ASU Sun Devils”; it’s just “Mountain America Stadium”. They’re adding the “Home of the ASU Sun Devils” to not confuse fans since it’s a new name. The football stadium of University of Central Florida is called FBC Mortgage Stadium because of naming-rights deal similar to ASU. Should we change the name of the Wikipedia Page and lead to “FBC Mortgage Stadium; Home of UCF Knights”? Same scenario with the University of Kentucky stadium; should we change the name of the Wikipedia Page and Lead to “Kroger Field; Home of Kentucky Wildcats”?

One more thing to add, as of writing this, they’re replacing the signage of the stadium to the new name, meaning that they’re using the new sponsorship.

The stadium has been renamed to "Mountain America Stadium, Home of the ASU Sun Devils", not just "Mountain America Stadium", per the university's announcement and ASU facility page:
If any of those other universities were similarly officially named to include "...home of the TEAM", then yes, those articles too should include that in their lead.
I just realize the official name is "Mountain America Stadium, Home of the ASU Sun Devils"; that name should be in the Lead. I apologize. But, the rest of the article should be renamed to the shorter name which is "Mountain America Stadium". If the article name change is approved, the name should just be "Mountain America Stadium"

I don't think we're going to resolve this argument so, I requested a

3O Response: Please read
WP:NAMECHANGES, "Sometimes the subject of an article will undergo a change of name... If the reliable sources written after the change is announced routinely use the new name, Wikipedia should follow suit and change relevant titles to match." Hence we will have to Cwait. Additionally, I would suggest keeping the old name throughout the article.

Sun Devil Stadium →
Mountain America Stadium – Arizona State University announced that they will be renaming Sun Devil Stadium to Mountain America Stadium as part of a naming-rights deal with Mountain America Credit Union. Although the
WP:OFFICIAL is “Mountain America Stadium, Home of the ASU Sun Devils” the local media in the Phoenix area and the fanbase has been using the new
WP:COMMONNAME of “Mountain America Stadium”

Comment;
WP:NAMECHANGES A lot of
WP:SOURCE such as
The Arizona Republic,
Phoenix New Times and
ABC 15 have been using the new
WP:COMMONNAME in the new articles. Even the ASU student newspaper
The State Press is using the new name. All the news websites and blogs that talk about NCAA Football and Arizona State Athletics have been using the new name. The stadium removed any signage of the old name; the new name has even been painted on the field.

Links to a few of the reliable local sources that use the new
WP:COMMONNAME weeks after the name change. Most of them are sports related:
Support. Sources about US stadiums generally follow name changes – as repeatedly seen with
Acrisure Stadium (Pittsburg),
Valley Children's Stadium (Fresno, California),
Crypto.com Arena (Los Angeles), etc. – using sponsored names routinely. That remains the case even in cases with unpopular reception for the change among fans or locals, where one might have been most likely to imagine common practice rejecting official naming. Here, we see the expected result has happened.
