What is the history on the Rockhill area of Starkville Mississippi?

I glanced over this article and didn't see anything on Travis Outlaw the NBA player from Starkville. Maybe I missed it though. If someone knows more about him and his history with the town please add it. BryanAtkinson 05:15, 3 July 2006 (UTC) reply

Seattle of the South

A quick google search of this term shows results from Murfreesboro TN and Carrboro NC. Adding Starkville to the search eliminates ALL results. Therefore I am removing this statement from the page. - LeeNapier ( talk) 16:54, 1 March 2010 (UTC) reply

Popular People section

I removed this part of the article since it was subject to vandalism and non-verifiable (and probably a fake...)

Travis Outlaw is the only youn African American that made it out of Starkville,Ms

Popular People

  • Sylvester Croom 1st African American coach in the SEC
  • Tom Norris, owner of the Hunt Club and Bulldog Lanes
  • Katherine McGinley Sexiest Woman in Starkville 2007

Notable People Section

I have tried to clean this section up, as a number of people were listed as being born in Starkville that were not. Also, I removed the following people: * Willie Gallispi, NFL player with the Miami Dolphins * Brian Smith, musician * Jeffrey Haupt, painter as I could find no non-recursive (ie., linking back to wikipedia or a mirror of wikipedia content) links to two of them (including Willie Gallispi - I would think there would be something about him on the web if he played in the NFL, but no), and the other is a non-notable professor of art at MSU. Of course, anyone with a legitimate claim to their notability is free to replace them on the list. - LeeNapier 16:10, 20 April 2007 (UTC) reply

5A ranking?

An anonymous user ( IP address 69.59.65.82 questioned Starkville High School's 5A ranking. Everything I've found on the web (such as this, this, and this) seems to suggest that they are indeed 5A ranked, but if anyone has evidence that they are not, this is the place for that discussion. - LeeNapier 15:43, 27 August 2007 (UTC) reply

Notable people

The notable people section needs another cleanup. It seems to have gained a list of notable people educated in Starkville. Notable people should be born there, or have lived there for a significant period of time, per WP:USCITIES. Thanks for your feedback. Magnolia677 ( talk) 03:36, 26 January 2014 (UTC) reply

When including notables, is it proper to use the Starkville Micropolitan Statistical Area or should the list be confined by the city limits? Whoop there it is! ( talk) 20:57, 29 January 2014 (UTC) reply

the notable area i you forgot to add Super Bowl winner Donald Tywon Lee...you should do better research Angeleyez68 ( talk) 02:12, 28 July 2018 (UTC) reply

Donald Lee is appropriately included in the notables section for his hometown Maben, Mississippi. If you have a source that warrants his inclusion in the Starkville notables section as well, please feel free to help by posting it here. Jacona ( talk) 10:47, 28 July 2018 (UTC) reply

Public schools

It is appropriate to begin the Public Schools section with a mention of the Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District (SOCSD), which is the public school system currently serving Starkville. Referenced material concerning a historical African-American school that existed prior to integration is more appropriately included somewhere else in the section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bearclaws13 ( talkcontribs) 18:09, 16 June 2018 (UTC) Bearclaws13 ( talk) 03:51, 18 June 2018 (UTC) reply

FYI, pings don't work unless they are included in a properly signed message. I replied to your message in my talk page. I'd suggest you read it. I'll respond to any valid arguments you make here, but not anytime soon. It's bedtime, and I've got a full schedule tomorrow. See WP:NODEADLINE. [[User:Bearclaws13|Bearclaws13], While some of your edits improved the structure of the section, I'm concerned that some of your edits appear to be an attempt at WP:WHITEWASHING, which has a double meaning in this case. Any discussion of education in Starkville needs to include the history of segregated education and needs to use a neutral point of view. Please feel free to improve the article, but don't remove or minimize information because it seems uncomplimentary, or fails to reflect the nature of the city today. This isn't the city's public relations website, it's an encyclopedia article. In a (mostly) unrelated comment, rally bananas are awesome! Jacona ( talk) 16:50, 18 June 2018 (UTC) reply
Clarification: feel free to improve the article, but because we've hit some controversy, be sure and fully discuss the changes here first, so as to achieve consensus and avoid making the article a battleground of sorts. Thanks! Jacona ( talk) 16:52, 18 June 2018 (UTC) reply

Negro?
