Explain how the New Jersey Nets (as of now) are a New York sports team. Also explain how the Jets and Giants are NY sports teams.

Because the Jets and Giants are officially from New York. They play in New Jersey, but they are a part of the New York area, and their fan bases are mainly from New York.

03/31/2014 - I too am wondering about including the NFL Jets & Giants as current NY teams. I understand they use NY in their name, but they play in NJ. I'm not here to argue over whether the Giants and the Jets should be considered New York City teams, but if they count then shouldn't the Devils count as well? Malcolmmwa ( talk) 01:43, 6 November 2020 (UTC) reply

@ Malcolmmwa: Is there a WP:RS source where the team claims to represent the city or state of New York despite being in New Jersey? That is really the only reason why the Giants and Jets are listed in this manner. (As well as historically speaking, they actually played in the state of New York. The Devils came from Denver.)
