The article had stated that the Sault was the third oldest city in the U.S. (a claim which is also made on the Convention and Visitors Bureau website, which admittedly is to be considered with some skepticism). An anon (probably rightly) thought this was a mistake and changed it to be the oldest city west of the Appalachian Mountains. However, being founded in 1668, this might make it the third oldest west of the Appalachians (though I wonder if this completely overlooks Spanish settlements in California). In any case, since I have no way of quickly determining what the order of precedence is for cities in the U.S., I changed it say simply that it is one of the oldest cities in the U.S. older≠ wiser 01:57, Nov 2, 2004 (UTC)

Can anybody confirm that it is pronounced "soo" Ste. Marie? If so, can somebody add a Wiki-approved pronounciation guide? -- Adamrush 19:30, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
I can attest, as a life long resident of "The Soo" that is it pronounced Soo (rhymes with Moo) Sainte Marie. If you pronounce it Sault (as in Salt) Saint Marie we know that you have absolutely no clue. Hcrawford
There is a "de" shown on the 1873 "Atlas of the state of Michigan" by Walling, H.F. http://www.davidrumsey.com/BrowserInsight/BrowserInsight?cmd=start&cid=1&ig=1&ir=740031&id=22419&iwc=1&iwas=2&iwo=true&d=0&iia=1&gwl=1&gws=1&ss=0
Always typing faster than I can think, I said that the "Soo" was on the eastern edge, when I meant to correct that it said on the western edge. Either way, it's correct in the article now. Muj0 00:20, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

The link which is given as homepage (www.sault-sainte-marie.mi.us) seems to be broken. Maybe someone can choose the right one.-- McBayne ( talk) 13:34, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
In my opinion, the Michigan side is called South Sault Ste. Marie and the Ontario side is called North Sault. Ste. Marie. 67.184.73.171 ( talk) 12:20, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
