<a href=" http://www.discoverroxbury.org/TheHistoryofRoxbury/tabid/54/Default.aspx">This page</a>, linked in the article, says Roxbury inc'd as a city in 1846. Incidentally, <a href=" http://www.charlestownbusiness.com/history.html">this site</a> says Charlestown (also now a neighborhood of Boston) incorporated as a city in 1847, which would seem to suggest that it should be in this category, not in Defunct Towns (I don't have documentary evidence for either of these two claims, so I won't make the change). Still, I'm not sure we need a category with only two entries; why not put all disincorporated cities and towns in "Category: Defunct municipalities in Massachusetts" instead? This page needs a reference to John Eliot. The Eliot church still stands - at least it was there the last time I drove through - and he was a very important figure in the colonial era. He ministered to native Americans and African-Americans, and gave land for the Eliot school in what is now Jamaica Plain.

And yes, Roxbury was in independent city before annexation.

I removed some citation requests from the text. The statements referenced are not controversial. Any map of colonial Boston shows that Roxbury was at the mainland connnection to Boston. I likewise removed citation request for the section on notable residents. I've cleaned them up. Most of those that remain have Wiki-pages that make clear the subject's connection to Roxbury. In other cases there is an explanatory note and/or an external link to a reliable source. I'm not sure of where to put this comment as it applies to the Wikipedia entry on Roxbury and its boundaries. I believe that to say that the South End and the Boston & Albany RR Yards (which the Prudential Center replaced) were historically in Roxbury is incorrect. Also, I don't remember the yards ever being called the "Roxbury" yards. Whitehill's Topographic History puts the South End-Roxbury border at about Lenox Street which is south of Mass Ave, thus putting the South End and Back Bay proper within Boston. Whitehill wasn't right about everything but this seems definitive. However, the Fens and surrounding Fenway neighborhood, Longwood Med area, Mission/Parker Hill, Northeastern Univ area, maybe even Kenmore Square, are all at least historically within Roxbury. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.96.23.183 ( talk) 15:02, 20 October 2009 (UTC) reply

There are many issues with the two separate descriptions of Roxbury's modern boundaries. While neighborhoods in Boston are rather loosely defined, some of the boundaries in this article are simply incorrect. The following sentence should be removed since it is wildly inaccurate:

"Roxbury now generally ends at Hammond St, Davenport St to the east and East Lenox St/Melnea Cass Boulevard to the south."

Hammond, Davenport, and East Lenox are in no way part of Roxbury, while Melnea Cass is often considered part of the northern boundary.

The other section is also problematic. It seems to conflate historic lines with current ones. The latter half, quoted below, appears to describe current boundaries but contains errors. The Muddy River does not border Roxbury by any standard (Jamaica Plain and Mission Hill are between the river and Roxbury) and Columbia Road is rarely used as a boundary between Roxbury and Dorchester. ^[1]

"This side of the Muddy River is Roxbury, the other side is Brookline and Boston. Franklin Park, once entirely within Roxbury when Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury and Roslindale were villages within the town of Roxbury until 1854, has been divided with the line between Jamaica Plain and Roxbury located in the vicinity of Peter Parley Road on Walnut Avenue, through the park to Columbia Road. Here, Walnut Avenue changes its name to Sigourney Street, indicating the area is now Jamaica Plain. Reasons for Change on Roxbury page

I changed the lead section by adding new information. I did not delete any content from the lead section, only added the information that I will be adding to the rest of the page.

I made changes to the demographics section to single in on just the neighborhood of Roxbury. I used the Boston Redevelopment Authority to get information on demographics of just Roxbury. The previous demographics section had info for Long wood medical area as well as mission hill. I think it is important to solely focus on Roxbury on its own page.

The wikipedia page for Roxbury did not include a community resources page. I believe this is necessary because it shows what Roxbury has to offer its residents. Someone who is looking up information on Roxbury can now better see that it is a community on the move and cares about its residents. Urban policies is another section that was not included in the previous Roxbury page. I added this to show what some of the rules for urban life in Roxbury are. Again this corresponds to the Roxbury community as well as its residents. Buildings and policies governing requirements for things such as produce are important to the well being of its residents. During my research I found out that the colleges in Roxbury do plenty for their community. I think it is important to have extensive info about these colleges as they help with Roxbury residents. I added info about the college, such as workshops provided, shows provided, educational assistance for young children, allowing them to call in with questions. It is important to highlight the important aspects of Roxbury, and with all the work the colleges do, especially Roxbury Community College, the extra information is necessary. The previous Roxbury page did not have any info relating to entertainment in Roxbury. I added this section so people who are looking up Roxbury can point to things there is actually to do in the neighborhood. Along with parks and recreation centers, there are culture centers, museums, etc. By adding this to the page, people who are searching Roxbury will not think of it as just a place with people, but also a place where there is the possibility of visiting and having some fun. Many people in Roxbury use the T as a means of transportation. I added this section because it was missing from the original page. People searching Roxbury, will now know what subway lines go to this neighborhood, as well as buses that go through the neighborhood. In my edit to the lead section, there is a direct link for more information regarding the MBTA throughout Roxbury. This is being done for coursework in the wikipedia edu. program so I would appreciate edit suggestions made to me rather than just changed, please. I have added more information about Recreation centers that people can go to for after school and somewhere to hang out. There is a section on Housing that people should know about different kind of housing that people can look into. There is also a section on Education. I have added more elementary schools and why they were created.

Hello, I have decided to make some changes in this article in order for researchers to get a better knowledge of the organizations and services available in Roxbury, Boston. In order to be more in tune and interested in the article, I felt the need to create subheadings under the community resource section. For major nonprofit organizations I was able to add more specifics in finding, accessing, and understanding the organizations and its motives. As a made these adjustments, I needed to rearrange the order of the paragraphs just a bit. In addition, I added sections concerning the Boston Police Department because I feel that they deserve more that just a few sentences. They are very involved in the community needs and strengths. They do their best to ensure individualized program rather than just generalized attention. They target safety concerns, the youth generations, violence, civic engagement, and they protect the overall sanitation of the city. This is being done for coursework in the Wikipedia Edu Program so I would really appreciate edit suggestions made to me rather than just changed. Thank you.
