This article states that Robert Johnson lived with Lockwood's mother on and off for ten years. However, the article about Robert Johnson states that he didn't become involved with Lockwood's mother until the early 1930s. Johnson died in 1938, so the time span would have had to have been no more than eight years and more likely five or six.

I don't know who wrote the comment on when Johnson lived with Lockwood's mother. I agree that there may be a conflict here, although the Robert Johnson article doesn't currently mention specific dates. According to Terry Buckalew, who interviewed Robert Lockwood, "Around 1931 Johnson met Lockwood's mother, Esther, and the two started a relationship that lasted, on and off, until Johnson's death in 1938" [1] [2]
I cannot resolve the difference between the Buckalew article and the Deep Blues book by Robert Palmer (which I have not seen).

Robert Jr Lockwood or Robert Lockwood Jr

When I saw him in the 1980s, he was billed as "Robert Jr. Lockwood". Here is an obit] using Robert Jr. He is not the son of Robert Lockwood, but I don't know what his correct name is. The article says the the Jr shifted back and forth. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 00:47, 2 April 2020 (UTC) reply

He is Robert Jr. Lockwood, that's what he preferred. The title of this entry should be changed so that it reads Robert Jr. Lockwood. Robert Jr. referred to the way he was billed in relation to Robert Johnson. His father was not named Robert. Eatonland ( talk) 02:53, 21 November 2022 (UTC) reply

Numerous articles in Wikipedia say Robert Lockwood Jr. I have always understood that that is incorrect. I do not have any sources to hand, but numerous times I have read that people called him Robert Junior in his youth, in reference to his closeness to, and his playing with, Robert Johnson. And that he frequently therefore used "Robert Junior Lockwood." On the Little Steven's Underground Garage podcast titled Radio Pirata (or Pirate Radio), at the 1:10 mark, he claims that he was Robert Junior Lockwood. He was known as Robert Junior by his family because, it was inferred, he was the son of Robert Johnson. But Johnson and Robert Junior's mother never married, so, he was Robert Junior Lockwood. I cannot be certain that "Junior" was ever legally part of his name, so perhaps it should be Robert "Junior" Lockwood.
Robert Lockwood Jr. should be considered as incorrect.
I would think that using the abbreviation is incorrect as the 'Jr' is reserved for use when there is a 'Sr'. There was never a Robert Lockwood Sr. [1] [2] Lhammer610 ( talk) 18:53, 31 July 2023 (UTC) reply

Name of Robert Lockwood's Mother

There are conflicting sources regarding the name of Robert Lockwood's mother. In the Terry Buckalew article [3], the mother of Robert Lockwood is named as Esther Reese Lockwood. In most published sources (including, e.g. Up Jumped the Devil [4]) she is named as Estella Lockwood, Estella Stames (or Staines) or, most often, Estella Coleman (presumably her name when she knew Robert Johnson). It is unclear whether her first name is Esther or Estella. It is plausible that her name was Reese before she married Lockwood Sr, and that she subsequently changed her name several times to reflect her living situation. I'm unsure which to include, and have gone for Estella Coleman (aka Esther Reese Lockwood). Advice welcomed. -- Blueskiwi ( talk) 21:02, 15 August 2020 (UTC) reply
