Is it only me, or is the marketing/sponsorship to other information ratio a bit high in this article? --

"originated from Krating Daeng"
The Red Bull energy drink's recipe was licensed from Krating Daeng but the company outfit, Red Bull GmbH, did not originate from Krating Daeng in Thailand. The phrasing is misleading, I removed it. --

5,612 BILLION cans??
No way. Even if we assume the American (as opposed to British) definition of "billion", i.e., a thousand million, then this means that there were 5.612 X 10∧6 cans consumed in one year, or about 800 per inhabitant of the earth, or an average consumption of over two by each person on earth per day for a year. I would accept that a figure of 5,612 MILLION cans might represent a year's actual consumption, and even this level is approximately one can for each person in the world over the age of 12 per year, which is still extremely impressive, but realistic.

I'm pretty positive it's just a mistake in the use of comma versus dot. How numbers are punctuated are different between languages. Your calculation seems off, don't you mean 5.612 X 10∧12? In any case I think it's supposed to be 5.612 X 10∧9 or more like 0.8 drink per person on earth (I guess population has grown quite some in just these years that have passed now). --
