They did not die out. The tribes that comprise the Powhattan still exist. See the Pamunkey, Mattaponi, and other Virginia Indians. They are still with us. The six tribes in Virginia received their federal recognition under the Thomasina E. Jordan Indian Tribes of Virginia Federal Recognition Act of 2017, signed in January 2018. This article requires some level of detail on the submission and approval of this bill, based on the level of detail already existing. The Powhatan Nation of American Indians, the base tribe of the Powhatan Confederacy is recognized by the state of Maryland and currently petitioning for federal recognition! Also the tribe isnt extinct obviously and Chief Wahunsenacawh and Pocahontas was not Pamunkey Indians The Pamunkey tribe did not legally assimilate until 1646 The Powhatan Tribe was the made tribe obviously! In paragraph three in "English in the Land of the Powhatan" there is a sentence without a beginning. "Later Smith was introduced to Powhatan himself. was captured by Opechancanough, the younger brother of Wahunsenacawh. Smith became the first English colonist to meet the paramount chief Powhatan." First is that Wahunsenacawh and Pocahontas were Pamunkey. Thats ignorant on its face. They were POwhatan which was the base tribe of the Powhatan Confederacy, not just the name of the chief's home town. Also in the list of tribes where it says Powhatan, first off the tribe is not extinct and is a state recognized tribe who is currently petitioning for federal recognition. Also it was chiefed by Powhatans son! After his death it was handed down to his brother not long after that his other brother who was Chiefing the Pamunkey took over which lead to the dismantling of the Confederacy all together. I've been blocked from editing the article despite citing actual facts and evidence for my changes. I am Chief Uduladi the current chief of the pOwhatan Nation of American indians! The 11th great grandson of Chief Wahunsenacawh so trust me when I say no one here could possibly have a closer tie to this information than i do! period. But for some reason there is a person who is set out to target me personally and my tribe as other tribal members have tried to correct this and been blocked too. I am assuming it is a racial issue as the effort to spread misinformation is abundantly clear and seems to only be targeted towards the tribe and it's current vitality! We do have a website that has been cited before WWW.PowhatanNation.US In which you can come learn more true information if anyone is interested. I only hope this is the only article where the lies about my people have been allowed to be promoted and corrections have been denied for mal intention! Looking this article's edit history, several attempts have been made by various IPs, User:ChiefUduladi, the blocked User:The Powhatan Nation, and the blocked User:Powhatan Nation to insert a group called the "Powhatan Nation of American Indians". A nonprofit by that name has been registered in the Enterprise, AL. [1] The group is listed on the List of organizations that self-identify as Native American tribes, but no news sources mention them, so even by the standards of unrecognized tribes, the group is not notable. The Powhatan Nation Of American Indians is one of the oldest tribes in America. Obtaining state recognition by Maryland last year and have officially petitioned for federal recognition. The tribe has 3 offices one in Florida one in Alabama and one in Maryland. Like all tribes legally have to, the nation is registered as an American Indian Nonprofit Tribal community. As far as new publications are concerned, you didn't look very far because The tribe has been mentioned in many publications including television and magazines, aside from the mountian of examples that are online. You should be ashamed of yourself for intentionally spreading false information in attempts to slander any group of people especially when the purpose for doing so is based on your personal opinion evidently based from racially motivated attacks from a person with a personal issue. I'm shocked by how rough this article is considering how significant the Powhatan are to Native and US history. I flagged the "Tribes of the paramount chiefdom and their territories" section for being under-referenced. It's almost completely unreferenced. Perhaps this section could be transformed into a list (as opposed to the current complex table) and the more detailed information could be found on the articles for the individual tribes. Information above is not accurate nor true. The Powhatan Nation Of American Indians is one of the oldest tribes in the Nation. The tribe has state recognition in Maryland and has officially petitioned for federal recognition. The tribe currently has 3 offices one in Orlando Florida one in Enterprise Alabama and one in The state they are legally recognized in , Maryland. The tribe legally had to register as a American Indian tribe which is always filled as a non profit Tribal community. As far as the news containing information on the tribe there has been hundreds of publications. Specifically the tribes efforts to rebuild their nearly extinct Algonquin language has been reported on nationally by television networks, papers and magazines. Promoting false information against any group or organization is wrong. Publicly making intentional efforts to defame, misrepresent with intent to build a narrative by slander is actually illegal. It is such a disappointment to witness blatant propaganda and racially motivated attacks being executed against a tribe or any community by unchecked, unqualified individuals taking advantage of Wikipedia's unfortunate operating functions. On one hand it's frustrating because Google typically pushes. Wikipedia as 3rd or 4th option given. That being said studies now indicate that the majority of users have come to the exact same conclusion that wikipedia is no longer a source of factual information by either experiencing lies being repeatedly regurgitated about people, organizations and communities despite how obvious or easily verified the truth is. It is a shame to see the downfall of what once had potential to be a great tool of knowledge or information. Luckily most people no longer trust Wikipedia because of the flaws mentioned before and avoid having to use it as verification for inquiries on information. Down fall to that is those users are now going to X, formally Twitter and TikTok for information. While the information on those platforms is inputted in the same manner as wikipedia (Random user's opinions) it definitely has potential to lead to harmful situations. I've searched several times for the "Powhatan Nation of American Indians," and there just isn't enough published about your organization to establish notability to create an article for it. This article, Powhatan, is about the historic tribe which has numerous descendant tribes, all of whom are listed. As a tertiary source, Wikipedia content is limited exclusively to verifiable, published sources. It is not an appropriate place for original research or promotional of an organization.
