PRR license plates

I've seen a couple of these on the road, but now we've got an image of one:

File:Paudsrr.jpg

Perhaps a few words could be added to the article to describe the plate and what the extra money for the plate goes toward? slambo 20:11, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

The image was deleted on January 29 2006, for a lack of source info. Perhaps someone can get a photo of a PRR license plate? Slambo (Speak) 15:40, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

GA Re-Review and In-line citations

Members of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles are in the process of doing a re-review of current Good Article listings to ensure compliance with the standards of the Good Article Criteria. (Discussion of the changes and re-review can be found here). A significant change to the GA criteria is the mandatory use of some sort of in-line citation (In accordance to WP:CITE) to be used in order for an article to pass the verification and reference criteria. Currently this article does not include in-line citations. It is recommended that the article's editors take a look at the inclusion of in-line citations as well as how the article stacks up against the rest of the Good Article criteria. GA reviewers will give you at least a week's time from the date of this notice to work on the in-line citations before doing a full re-review and deciding if the article still merits being considered a Good Article or would need to be de-listed. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us on the Good Article project talk page or you may contact me personally. On behalf of the Good Articles Project, I want to thank you for all the time and effort that you have put into working on this article and improving the overall quality of the Wikipedia project. Possible copyvio - Electrification section

Is it just me or does the entire Electrification section read like something lifted from a book published in the 1940s or 1950s? Referencing image numbers for images that are not included here and noting that equipment first placed in service in 1910 is still in operation on LIRR both throw up red flags for me. Googling for key phrases doesn't come up with anything productive. Looking at the page history, the section was added on Dec 22 by GK tramrunner ( talk · contribs) who has had many messages about copyright issues on images he uploaded. Slambo (Speak) 17:43, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Looking at some of the intermediate revisions on Dec 22, it seems like the original text came out of some kind of Optical Character Recognition software, and needed to be cleaned up. I know I have seen the labeled catenary photograph in old textbooks before. Perhaps The Pennsylvania Railroad: A Pictorial History by Edwin P. Alexander? Is Mr. Alexander even still living to give his consent to put this photograph in the public domain? Atomsmith 21:12, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

The OCR seems likely, I hadn't thought of that. I don't know if the author's still around. Either way, it's looking more like the section needs to be removed, or at the very least updated to reflect the period between the book's publication and today. Slambo (Speak) 18:13, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

I did a major rewrite of this section using alternate sources and links. Hopefully, this will be ok Shinerunner 01:41, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

GA quick delist

I have delisted this as a GA nominee. I noticed that one of the main concerns in the GA review was a lack of inline citations; as it stands, the article still has no inline citations. There are a few jumplinks ( like this) which could and should be converted to inline citations, but beyond this the article definitely needs to have its references keyed to specific passages in the text in order to pass. Steam Locomotives section

In copyediting this section, I had trouble with "The Belpaire firebox design traded a more difficult construction to one that had a greater heating surface and simpler firebox staying." What does this mean? - Milkbreath 20:46, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

I agree with your assesment, the wikilink to Belpaire firebox in the previous sentence would lead the reader to a better explanation of the firebox design. I've removed the sentence, if there is some other suggestion, it can be restored. Shinerunner 22:47, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

PRR Major Passenger Stations section

Monkeying with pictures is not my forte. The station names don't line up right, and they never will if it's left to me. - Milkbreath 21:13, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

I play around and moved the photos. They seem to line up better Shinerunner 23:08, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

PRR History

The PRR was a massive company during its time. It seems that most of the history deals with the PRR Eastern U.S. service. Should there be expanded information about the rest of the PRR's history or should another page be started? Shinerunner 23:14, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

GA nomination failed

I have failed the GA nomination for the following reason(s):

  • Inadequte sourcing especially in the first have of the article.
