satire

In addition to baffling those who are not fully conversant in the math of bases other than 10, Lehrer also pokes fun at parents who can no longer help kids with their homework because they have never covered this material. The chorus line "It's so simple, so very simple, that only a child can do it." sums (pun intended) it up.

improvement

For my History of Math class at Roger Williams University, we are required to improve a Wikipedia article about math. I have chosen this one and I would like to add the lyrics to the page and a citation and reference for the lyrics. I would use http://www.lyricsfreak.com/t/tom+lehrer/new+math_20138395.html for this change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ajohnson398 ( talkcontribs) 16:28, 6 December 2010 (UTC) reply

Including the lyrics directly in the article would be a copyright violation. I'm not sure this article allows for great improvment, unless you turn up further reviews. It's mainly more of a bibliographic searching and sourcing thing than adding mathematical expository prose... AnonMoos ( talk) 16:33, 6 December 2010 (UTC) reply
