While I'm not a huge fan of the NBDL, there is a new team in my hometown (Austin), and so it has brought the league to my attention. The NBA certainly seems to be committed to keeping this league going, so it's probably in the best interest of Wikipedia to make these pages at least decent. I've personally established the new pages for Austin and Albuquerque, and now the only teams w/o standard format pages are Tulsa and Arkansas. While I realize these teams may continue to be fluid in location (as will their players), is anyone other than me interested in perhaps keeping these pages up-to-date? The future expansion section keeps getting deleted and portland gets added as a future city, but this team hasn't been approved by the NBDL yet. I will undo this change unless given a reason. The playoff seeding will be differnt for 2009. The top 3 divison winners as well as the 4th place overall finisher will select their opening round opponent from the remaining 4 teams, with the top seed selecting first and so on. Jelani McCoy actually was a member of the Laker team that won the NBA title in 2001-2002, although he was not apart of the active roster during the playoffs, so I'm not sure if that counts as being a title winner [1]. Since the 2010-2011 amount of teams is yet to be confirmed, the number should be removed. There is still a possibility that teams may expand or retract or even move altogether. - The league already confirmed 16 teams for the next season, comprised of 15 teams from previous seasons and the Texas Legends who formerly Colorado 14ers (2006–2009). [1] Another team from previous season, the Los Angeles D-Fenders, decided to go inactive for this season with a possible return in 2011. [2]. Hello anyone who cares, two weeks ago I moved this page to NBA Gatorade League as editors began making the changes over to the 2017–18 season and as of 2017–18 the league is to be called the G-League. It was an apparent but undiscussed consensus and until recently there has been no push back. However, User:Spshu has pointed out that this move may have been premature (even if the editor in question has been going about it in a rough way) as, officially, the next season does not begin until July 1 (if I remember the CBA correctly). Spshu has been changing the lead so that it does not match the title which is against Wikipedia guidelines. The question is, do we think we should move the page back to NBA Development League for the next three weeks and change every thing back to the 2016–17 status? My biggest argument against reverting back is that almost all the participating teams have made there changes to their 2017–18 status ( South Bay Lakers from the D-Fenders, Iowa Wolves from Energy, new affiliations, coaches, and expansion teams named, etc.) Argument for reverting back is WP:COMMONNAME and that the league website has not changed over yet. - WP:NAMECHANGES would add weight as to how they refer to it after the name change becomes official, so even after the name change it may not assume the new official name. For example, it could be more referred to as "NBA G-League" then "NBA Gatorade League" (thus the lead would read "NBA G-League, officially the NBA Gatorade League,") or the NBA D-League might stick as fans and media don't like the sponsoring out the name of the leage. I do see Oknazevad point, thus I have not made an official article name move request and just change the lead paragraph name, while acknowledging the future name. It seemed like a good compromise. But, Oknazevad has indicated that this is against guidelines too (not having the lead name match the article name). I am not fond of yo-yo sponsorship naming and its effect on college bowl game thus effecting article titles (not that I have gotten too deep with that issue on WP). Thus maybe Gatorade drops its sponsor early and we get another sponsor or PepsiCo decides to intervene to transfer it to another brand. This inconsistency may force people to commonly disregard the official name for Developmental League ('call it what it is'). In a further development on the name of this league, it appears that the league ( as noticed here) is not using "Gatorade League", just "G League" (with no hyphen). I have check through their new website updates and that certainly appears to be the case. Per COMMONNAME, Gatorade is still getting some usage, but most reports have began adopting both the shortened name and non-hyphenated G League. Any thoughts and moving the page again? - I have no axe to grind, but looked into this as an admin considering a speedy nomination of the categories for renaming to "NBA Gatorade League". I concur that the official website uses "the NBA G League", [3] and Google has 91,000 hits for that phrase, compared to only 8,000 for "the NBA Gatorade League". – Fayenatic London 20:55, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
- @ Fayenatic london: Agreed and done. I have been checking periodically and finding about four times as many news sources for G League over Gatorade League. The only issue still to be determined is if the G-League usage vs. the G League usage will cause a change again (both show up for me when searching "G League"). Do we think we need to link to every single defunct team on here? Personally if it just redirects to the latest iteration of the franchise I don't think it's really necessary, especially when most of the time the current franchise is also linked. A lot of these team pages need cleanup, and I think there would be some value in many of these defunct teams getting their own pages.
