I'm a newb and don't want to risk screwing anything with an edit, yet, so I'll just comment for now. The "1958 18 horsepower Johnson engine" on the Penn Yan 14 foot is pretty clearly not the stated engine. This section is badly in need of attention from someone who knows a bit about the subject, but even an ignoramus like me knows that offshore -i.e. on salt water – power boat racing is A Thing and that current F2 racing boats use a 2.5 litre (~150 cu. in.) outboard.
