Unincorporated Territory

The map shows the maritime municipal boundaries, but I noticed that some water in the Atlantic and in Raritan Bay are not shown to be part of any municipality. Monmouth trending Republican?

Are you sure? Bush did recieve a higher percent of the vote in 2004, but then, if you look at the map, EVERY county in New Jersey swung toward the Republicans. Origin of name

Currently says: Its name came from a suggestion from Colonel Lewis Morris. He suggested it be named after Monmouthshire, Wales. But the page List of counties in New Jersey says its name comes from "Rhode Island Monmouth Society", with a reference to Origin of New Jersey Placenames, M, which says " Rhode Island Monmouth Society, settlers", implying the first settlers were of this society. That reference also says "This publication was compiled by workers of the Federal Writers' Program of the Work Projects Administration in the State of New Jersey, and was sponsored by the New Jersey State Library Commission." "Border" with Staten Island

If Monmouth County shares a "border" with Staten Island by way of the Raritan Bay, then so, too, does it share a border with Brooklyn, Queens, and all of Long Island for that matter. With the exception of rivers, borders tend to be land based. The fact that there is no bridge between MoCo and S.I., as there is between Middlesex Co. and S.I., and Union Co. and S.I., only underscores this point. Monmouth County doesn't border "all of Long Island," because New Jersey state waters don't extend that far east in the Atlantic. Monmouth County does have a maritime border with both Richmond County, NY (Borough of Staten Island), and Queens County, NY (Borough of Queens). It doesn't border Kings County, NY (Borough of Brooklyn) because technically Queens and Staten Island share a maritime boundary. If you're in Coney Island, Brooklyn and go south, you enter Queens waters before crossing the state line into Monmouth County, NJ. 98.221.131.77 ( talk) 10:55, 30 August 2009 (UTC) reply

The Education section contains a sentence which is clearly an advertisement placed by someone at Rutgers University:

" Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey has a partnership with Brookdale Community College which offers Bachelor degree completion programs at Brookdale's Freehold campus. For more information on this program please visit http://www.wmhec.rutgers.edu."

The link is to Rutgers' web site. However, BCC has partnerships with all of the four-year colleges and universities which are part of the Communiversity, not just Rutgers (see http://www.brookdalecc.edu/pages/2324.asp).

Advertisements are not supposed to appear in Wikipedia entries. I recommend the deletion of this entire passage and replacing it with one which describes the Communiversity in a balanced way, including listing off all of the universities which are part of the Communiversity consortium with BCC, instead of just one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.98.16.84 ( talk) 18:01, 15 October 2009

Founding Date 1683

From the Monmouth county website: Monmouth County was officially formed on March 7, 1683, by the General Assembly as one of the four original counties of the Province of East Jersey. "It was named, through the influence of Colonel Lewis Morris, after Monmouthshire, where his family had a vast estate."

Model Monmouth Article on Hudson?

I think we should use the Hudson County, New Jersey article as a model of where the Monmouth County article should be heading. We are missing key elements like parks, landmarks and historic places, museums, and business. History ends with manumission in the 1820s. We have every possible roadway listed under transportation and talk about roads and transportation like we are all commuting into New York or going to the beach. The North Jersey Coast Line train doesn't just go through Monmouth and Middlesex counties; it also hits Union, Essex and Hudson for eight more stops. We should at least mention Newark and Hoboken to the north, and Long Branch and Bay Head to the south, as key terminuses. I like how Hudson County broke out transportation such that it didn't appear that cars were "transportation" while trains and buses were something else. The Raritan Bayshore doesn't flow into Raritan Bay, although we could include watersheds.

We have a lot of the content we need in articles that have already been written, so we need to begin to structure the sections and subsections and discover what needs to go in them. I haven't looked at Categories yet, but I imagine we can discover much of the content for the improved article by using the Monmouth County categories page. If we don't have enough structure, that could be a place to start.

I participated in the improving of the Erie, Pennsylvania article about seven years ago and it was fun earning Featured Article status. I would be interested in such an enterprise on a part time basis and hope some others might be willing to help as well. ~~

Municipalities

A chart has been added which lists the county's municipalities. Next to the name of each municipality, an editor has added a number in parentheses (eg. "Aberdeen Township (50)").
