Why is there no mention of My Lai in this article? I know that Mo Udall downplayed his role in getting this event the attention it got in Congress (see his biography), but I think it is still worth mentioning. See: http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/mylai/myl_hero.html : "One person said, "Write a letter and send it to the Army. Tell what you know and how you knew it." I decided that was half-good advice, that I should do that, but I shouldn't restrict it just to the Army. I wrote such a letter and in the end of March 1969 sent it out to thirty different Congressmen, Senators. Mo Udall, who was Congressman from Arizona---I lived in Arizona at the time acted on it, and called on the House Armed Services Committee to call on the Pentagon to conduct theinvestigation and they did so. The Pentagon responded to my letter less than two weeks later. " —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hcovitz ( talkcontribs) 00:40, 22 April 2010 (UTC) reply

My mother is a first cousin to Morris Udall and their families were close when she and Morris were children. When I was busted by the High School Vice-Principal with firecrackers at school I was lectured at home about Morris losing his eye to a firecracker when he was a boy. So what is the truth here? Firecracker or pocket knife? Were my parents trying to manipulate me with lies into fear of firecrackers with a made up story or does the Wikipedia article need correcting? Help me out here folks. 67.169.236.243 18:46, 25 March 2007 (UTC) reply

Mo Udall was my uncle, and I stayed with him in the year after his presidential campaign. We were told the pocket-knife story; no mention of firecrackers. Socratidion 14:04, 24 September 2007 (UTC) reply

I added "Citation Needed" to the claim Mo Udall was "Non-practicing" Mormon. In my Wikipedia work, it seems common for politically liberal Mormons are falsely called "inactive" when they are in fact quite active. It may be true that was "non-practicing", which is why I only called for a citation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.19.23.229 ( talk) 21:49, 5 April 2008 (UTC) reply

Thanks for the truth, Socratidion. Have you ever suspected that your parents told you small lies from time to time? I am the son of Dorothy Udall, daughter of David King Udall Jr, elder brother of Levi and Jessie. What kind of cousin does that make us? Doonesbury References

Is it worth mentioning references to Udall in pop-culture on here? There's a whole string of Doonesbury comics from September of 1975 that feature character Jimmy Thudpucker writing a song in honor of Morris Udall. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Notoftenpunctual ( talkcontribs) 14:25, 30 September 2010 (UTC) reply

Presidential campaign

This obituary is a good reference for most of the material in the section marked as uncited. Sorry I don't have time right now to follow up in detail. - Jmabel | Talk 19:59, 25 May 2010 (UTC) reply

Overhauled this page; still needs more ref citations

I've just finished overhauling (restructuring, reorganizing, and greatly expanding) this page -- particularly the "Political career" section -- which was astonishingly almost completely blank (except for "Presidential campaign" -- his entire THREE DECADES in Congress, shaping numerous historic laws, programs and policies, was dismissed with 2 short paragraphs!). I did not, however work on the last (seemingly bloated) article sections: "Presidential campaign" or "Legacy."

I've also painstakingly provided reference citations for EVERY WORD I've inserted -- as well as for many that were there already, but unattributed to any source. (Of the original 16 paragraphs, only 4 had any source citation at all -- 4 total citation footnotes for the whole article -- and 2 of those were simply references to texts of specific laws; according to Wikipedia policy, it would have been appropriate for me to have simply deleted the unsourced material -- nearly all of the article.). Despite my hours of repair work, much of the pre-existing material is still unsourced.

Where I've added new reference citations (from Univ. of Arizona, Audubon, New York Times, New York Magazine, etc.), I normally put the footnote at end of the relevant paragraph. Consequently, if there was any prior unsourced material already in the paragraph, my ref citation may -- or MAY NOT -- cover it.

PLEASE, if you're going to put any material in this article -- or any other Wikipedia page -- please cite sources, or just don't put it in there. Wikipedia is NOT a forum for you to simply write down what you, personally, know (or think you know). It's a exclusively place to post sourced information, properly footnoted and attributed. (see: WP:SOURCES).

This is essential to the public credibility of the article, and Wikipedia.
