Not much of an article, but most states have page devoted to the American Civil War, so I figured I'd start one for Michigan. Hopefully someone better informed about the state can add some substantial content. Scromett 17:03, 17 June 2007 (UTC) reply

I recall reading Michigan sent the most Union troops per capita, but I don't recall where (June 2013). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.250.206.188 ( talk) 20:42, 11 June 2013 (UTC) reply

Michigan Iron

I read Bruce Catton's "Michigan: A History" some years back. He mentions that a significant reason for the North winning the Civil war was the iron supplied by Michigan's upper peninsula. If the Sault St. Marie locks had not been completed a few years earlier, the North would not have had access to the iron, and consequently would have been at a disadvantage.

If I get time, I'll reread the book and post an entry here. (Unless someone else beats me to it.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.125.192.240 ( talk) 14:19, 26 April 2011 (UTC) reply
