This section is taken as is from a press release from mercury. It could be considered a copyvio considering only a single word was changed in certain paragraphs. Needs to be rewritten. Dread Specter 23:22, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
Is Mercury and Mariner the same type of outboard engines but different wrapping? If that is the case, then it should be added to the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.108.224.134 ( talk) 15:06, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
Yes and no, the very first mariner engines were actually yamaha powerheads in disguise. There was a backroom deal between mercury and yamaha to stall yamaha entering the north american market. Mercury dealers would sell yamaha outbaords (in mariner dress) for a few years while mariner was set up with its own dealer network. near the end of the mariner brand (late 90's) they were just grey merc's.

The world headquarters for Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin employs 850 unionized workers plus another 800 or so salaried employees. On 23 August 2009 the unionized employees (not laid off) voted down a contract amendment. This will probably impact the company's future and existence in Wisconsin. The president of the company, Mark Schwabero, said that the headquarters may move down to the smaller Stillwater, Oklahoma plant if contracts are not changed. Some believe the company wants to scale down operations, and, perhaps, move the manufacturing plants to Mexico or China. I'm a local in regards to the above story, so my local news is obviously consistantly proclaiming it. My question is, is this trade dispute enough to mention in the main article? I'm just afraid that, in the long term, this may not be much beyond an abnormal employment shift. -- 174.103.224.13 ( talk) 02:59, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Does anybody know whether Mercury Marine is incorporated by the state of Wisconsin, if incorporated at all. If not Wisconsin, which state? This is relavent to the understanding of what Mecury Marine is, because a corporation is not the same thing as a regular business. Just the facts. 99.19.245.166 ( talk) 22:32, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
If I remember correctly, one of the big selling points of Mercury outboards in the 1960's was that the propeller shaft had a shear pin that would break if the propeller struck a submerged object. This kept the shaft from being bent. Instead of replacing the shaft one had only to replace the pin. Is this correct? 2602:306:BDC0:CF90:BDC2:E3BA:457F:F5B0 ( talk) 19:06, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
