"Menhaden Boats"?

pornnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn I would think it should be mentioned. Also, the article states that there are only two harvesters of menhaden in the U.S., but it says they only operate in the gulf coast. How then can menhaden be the most harvested fish in the chesapeake bay? I just think it should be clarified whether Omega Protein Corporation and Daybrook fisheries are the only two harvesters of menhaden. I would imagine there would be many more. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.161.181.83 ( talk) 21:40, 9 October 2009 (UTC) reply

use as bait, perhaps this is just folk culture

I grew up on the water and bunker was considered by everyone as the best bait for lobster pots and bluefish. Prolly would be considered the best bait for other things if anyone I knew tried. The tradition was that the very oily flesh would send oil through the water a long distance and this was irresistible to lobsters and bluefish. I know from running lobster pots as a teenager that bunker was the best bait, though tinned cat food was very close. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.91.29.199 ( talk) 12:04, 1 September 2010 (UTC) reply

Daybrook

According to H. Bruce Franklin, Omega Protein had, in 2007, a virtual monopoly on the menhaden market, and kept a nominal competitor in existence for its own convenience (fewer reports to file).I have been unable to confirm that Daybrook is viable, or that it has folded. Can anyone? Should we state that OP has a real monopoly? Donfbreed2 ( talk) 10:22, 25 December 2012 (UTC) reply

COI

Tzjones, an editor who works for Saving Seafood (see the editor's user page), a fishing industry trade organization, recently joined WP and has been directly editing this and other articles. I have placed a COI tag on this article. Once an independent editor has reviewed changes made by Tzjones for NPOV and sourcing, the tag can be removed. Please make a note here when you do that. Thanks! Jytdog ( talk) 01:06, 30 April 2015 (UTC) reply

just reviewed this. other editors reviewed Tzjones edits as they came in. Content seems OK, so i removed the COI tag. Jytdog ( talk) 12:13, 30 April 2015 (UTC) reply

Cholesterol

Whilst the article talks about the positives of omega fatty acids, and healthiness with regards to bllod presure, in Menhaden oil, it omits to mention the very high levels of cholesterol present in the oil, and therefore it is very detrimental to heart health! 27.125.174.91 ( talk) 08:03, 29 September 2022 (UTC) reply
