There is no mention of the history of any of this. For example, mechanization took place in the United States and maybe Canada after the first world war? Wasn't up until after the second world war that most stuff was mechanized in Britain and maybe western Europe? You're right, there isn't much history here. However, there seems to be an assertion that US and Canada were way ahead of the UK where that is patently quite wrong. Mechanised agriculture was going on in the UK in the 19th century (
Traction engine). If anyone is going to get down to the history they need to consider the fact that there was a massive difference in scale between many country's agricultural land's fertility. Thus, what might have seemed to have been a small step was, in reality, a world-shaking advance that quickly took hold in many places.
There's also a propensity for northern hemisphere interests to overlook the two intensive farming countries in the southern one. Both of which still contribute massively to mechanisation in different parts of agriculture. There seems to be a propensity for some to point out that because the manufacture of machines was concentrated in certain regions of some countries, that country was the leader in the mechanisation worldwide. That is often quite wrong. It may just mean that one manufacturer had more patent rights or manufacturing capacity than did others.
As for the spelling, you can see that I'm definitely in the south and that's my spelling. I would like to see that where writers were talking about technology in different countries they used the vernacular spelling for that country without criticism by pedants. It is surely past time that we cannot easily recognise English as it is written in different countries and understand it without pause.
It seems to me that the finished article could collect a lot of links to existing Wikis into this one without saying the same stuff more than necessary. Let some readers jump to what interests them in detail, but leave the general reader to take what they need from this one. This sort of article could be consistently in US English, if you really are that parochial or illiterate.

- Wikipedia, after all, is an international collaboration, so both U. K. and U.S. spelling are acceptable. Trying to conform to one is discriminatory.

- No, that's wrong. Although we do not, and should not, attempt to enforce consistency across Wikipedia, the Manual of Style states explicitly "While Wikipedia does not favor any national variety of English, within a given article the conventions of one particular variety should be followed consistently."
