History?

Is anyone interested in doing a little research about the how the LA CC came to be? I feel like this article needs to give more background on the Council's history. -- Jkfp2004 ( talk) 03:50, 7 March 2010 (UTC) reply

If anyone wants to do biographys on the city councilmen, you can use the following link which has the percise dates of each councilman's term and what prompted the coucilman to leave office. (Councilman Roberts from 1917;

The graph of Councilmembers and when/where they served is wildly inaccurate. A series of 14th-district members are listed in CD13. 10th district members are listed in CD14. And so on... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmdrbond ( talkcontribs) 17:57, 26 October 2005 (UTC) reply

Council member missing . . .

I don't know how to add this guy to the chart, but Will H. Kindig was a council member in 1935-37, replacing and then being replaced by Howard W. Davis. Can somebody kindly stick him in the proper place? Thank you. GeorgeLouis ( talk) 05:07, 20 June 2011 (UTC) reply

This was done after I asked for assistance in another place. GeorgeLouis ( talk) 16:35, 30 August 2011 (UTC) reply

Opening paragraph, specifically statement re Council meetings schedule. Also COMMITTEES?

I opine that many visitors come to Los Angeles City Council for something other than historical knowledge. Those who worked on that did a super job and the information is indispensable.
However, I'd like to hope that some citizens come here knowing this page will be a sound starting point for researching some specific civic issue or perhaps to discover who's who and who does –or doesn't do– what.
We all agree, involvement by the citizenry in every level of government needs every ounce of help it can get.
Since the bulk of the work done by the City Council is handled by its various committees, it seems a glaring error not to mention its committee-based structure.
I just added the only mention of committees as line 5, but this "mention" stands unexplained and needs fleshing out.
For instance: How many committees are there? How many individuals are commonly on a committee? Some are standard and long-standing. They should be listed individually as traditional structural parts of the Council.
The Council's sporadic formation of ad hoc committees for timely purposes/events should also be mentioned.
This Wiki, as it stands, does a nice job of listing Los Angeles' current Council members, –information obviously included in the spirit of helping citizens locate various politicians, their own District, etc. Equally important are Council committee names, their chairpersons and members.
Because much of this information is in constant flux; all this entry needs to do is provide ample links to city government websites which keep such data current.

One other point...
A quick check at: http://lacity.org/YourGovernment/CityCouncil/CouncilCommitteeMeetings/index.htm
seems to belie the statement (line 4): It holds regular meetings in the City Hall on Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays at 10 am (except on holidays or if decided by special resolution not to meet).[1]
Various committee or full Council meetings seem to take place as Council members wish. I propose that this statement be replaced with something like:
City Council meetings occur at various times throughout the week. A complete schedule of those upcoming can be seen at (link) City Committee Meetings (/link) http://lacity.org/YourGovernment/CityCouncil/CouncilCommitteeMeetings/index.htm

George Williams not Notable

I removed the red link for George Williams because, try as I might, I could not find any sources for his Notability except he was named president of the L.A. City Council. His income came from being a grocer. He might have gone on to be mayor of Monrovia, California, but I couldn't find any source that said these two people were the same. Boy, did I seek sources, too! Frederic J. Whiffen not notable either

This fellow was a City Council president but didn't do anything else that was Notable, so I removed the red link for him as well. BeenAroundAWhile ( talk) 04:11, 7 March 2022 (UTC) reply

2022 Scandal

Was wondering why the 2022 Los Angeles City Council scandal isn't linked in this article. Even though it wasn't an official meeting it was still significant enough to damage the reputation of the council as a whole. I don't see it linked to on many other relevant pages either Equirax ( talk) 18:18, 26 January 2024 (UTC) reply
