This list is only the enlisted MOS's. Some reference (or page name) should be added (edited) to highlight this fact. -- ProdigySportsman 16:55, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Why aren't the legacy MOSs in this list? For instance, 6335 became 6332. Perhaps including them within the list might screw things up (many of these 'current' MOSs had predecessors), but then again the absence of those numbers suggests an incomplete list. Another suggestion may be to include the unused number(s), but mark them as such. I submit two different ways to accomplish this in the example below: WikiTorch 06:22, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
0206 Signals Intelligence Officers are not apart of the 02 Intelligence field. They are in the 26 community. Edit is not vandalism, just fixing it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.36.151.160 ( talk) December 4, 2009 21:16

1. "(All MOS are Officer-only)" -- No they aren't. There are 24 enlisted codes shown, and only 8 officer codes
2. On the other hand, the NAVMC 1008-A linked to (External Links section) shows no 9xxx codes at all. 104.153.40.58 ( talk) 03:28, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
The Marine Corps Band has a chamber orchestra ( https://www.marineband.marines.mil/About/Ensembles/) -- are there no skill designators for the violinists and other string players ( https://www.marineband.marines.mil/About/Members/Category/22362/) like those for the other musicians? 104.153.40.58 ( talk) 22:16, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
The Marine Corps Band is comprised of very specialized and highly qualified Marine musicians who serve under a special contract "for duty with the US Marine Corps Band only." They are not transferred away from Washington DC except for brief periods of training or touring to play music at military bases and for the public. The Marine Corps Band MOS is "MOS 5511, Member, The President's Own, United States Marine Band (MGySgt to SSgt)." All enlisted members of the Marine Corps Band have the same primary MOS, 5511, from their original appointment as staff sergeants until they are promoted to master gunnery sergeant. The other enlisted MOS's listed within Occupational Field 5500 do not pertain to those with MOS 5511. Marines specifically enlisted for duty with the Marine Corps Drum and Bugle Corps, MOS 5512, is similar. Those Marines who are "regular" musicians, with the USMC field bands at various locations around the world, hold MOS 5524; these Marines are those who may also hold the Necessary MOS's such as 5519, Conductor; 5517, Bandmaster; and 5526, Musician, Oboe, signifying specialization with certain skills or instruments. In other words, "the" Marine Corps Band, of which there is only one in Washington DC, the band that may provide chamber orchestras, play at the White House, etc., is comprised exclusively of MOS 5511 Marines who hold the necessary special White House security clearances. It is assumed that MOS 5511 Marines (and MOS 5512, as well) do not need the NMOS modifiers required for MOS 5524 field musics. So, it is possible that any given Marine holding MOS 5511 may be a member of a chamber orchestra and/or accomplished with string instruments, or winds, or the guitar, or vocalists, etc., but the USMC will not specify that additional specialization as it does for MOS 5524 Marines. 2600:1700:A150:E860:314B:91FC:4A06:5A9D ( talk) 08:29, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
How many people want to type out "United States Marine Corps" when there's no real need to? This and similar articles should have redirects from "List of USMC...." (The same goes for USAF and USCG articles). 104.153.40.58 ( talk) 14:19, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
This list is missing 1400 series MOS’s (Mapping/Surveying) that existed from the 1960’s through the early 80’s. The MOS became outdated with the introduction of GPS as the primary means of land navigation.
