The list should be rankings from worst to best. This gives false impression that the number 1 state in poverty rate is the worst. It makes google search results show only the first few states when searching for information on worst poverty rates. It also shouldnt include "territories" since they arent solely governed as states. The list is intentionally doing this to not show the fact that the top 10 states with worst poverty are southern states, louisiana, mississippi, kentucky, west virginia, alabama etc. (*Strangely enough two of the top 5 worst states for poverty is where mitch mcconnell and joe manchin are senators, and yet they continue to get re-elected by dumb voters and vote against things to help their poverty, abd these backwater states and their lacky senators somehow hold an entire natiin hostage--desiring to change all of america into same poor state as their own). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.11.28.129 ( talk) 20:11, 21 December 2021 (UTC) reply

The poverty rate map does not correspond to any of the figures cited in the list/table. There are no states with a poverty rate below 6% that is ridiculous. Why is this map by tastycakes on this page? Here is a correct map: https://www.indexmundi.com/facts/united-states/quick-facts/all-states/percent-of-people-of-all-ages-in-poverty#map

The rank seems to be incorrect? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.205.197.34 ( talk) 17:43, 15 May 2012 (UTC) reply

By default, the list is sorted according to the Supplemental Poverty Measure. Jarble ( talk) 03:33, 26 April 2016 (UTC) reply

The rank doesn't correspond to the sort by poverty percent, so it's not rank -- what is it? Also, the rank doesn't sort correctly. It's sorting alpha and not numeric and should be fixed. I'm surprised nobody else has tried to sort by rank... or have they done so and just walked away disgusted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.30.227.240 ( talk) 22:15, 23 August 2012 (UTC) reply

The unemployment rates on this page seem quite out of date, and the District of Columbia off by a factor of ten. Better data from US Census 2009-2011 here: https://www.census.gov/hhes/www/poverty/data/incpovhlth/2011/tables.html. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yellowking ( talkcontribs) 06:16, 20 November 2012 (UTC) reply

The poverty rates and ranking on this page are ridiculously out of date. There is more current and reliable data sources available at: https://datausa.io. Please update this page as it is incorrect misinformation.-- 65.60.190.108 ( talk) 20:33, 7 April 2019 (UTC) reply

US Census reference. Can anyone explain EXACTLY how to get the poverty rates by state?

I think the US Census table should be deleted if no one can explain how the data in the table comes from the reference:

USDA map and table should be used instead of the US Census ones

Abbasi786786. See: Wikipedia:Verifiability. If you or someone else can't explain how the data for the US Census-based maps and table is found, then they violate WP:V and should be deleted.

The USDA reference on the other hand is easy to understand:

From United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

See tables and lists here:

See map info here: Commons:File:Poverty rates by state. US map.svg
