Frequently asked questions Q1: Why isn't (insert meme name here) mentioned in this article?
A1: Wikipedia is
not an infinite repository of indiscriminate information; we cannot mention those phenomena which do not meet a standard of
notability and
verifiability. Q2: What does it take to make a new addition to the list?
A2: Memes must be proven of being
notable for inclusion, using
reliable sources that are
verifiable. Q3: Why do all additions need sources?
A3: This is an enforcement of Wikipedia policy, to ensure that only factual detail is added, and to prevent
synthesis and
original research, which may pose problems such as factual errors and
conflict of interest. Q4: Finding sources is boring. Can't somebody else do it?
A4: The
burden of finding sources is on you, as the contributor, not on any other editor. Contributors are required to find credible sources on their own, and not rely on other editors in obtaining sources. |

This article is a list of notable Internet phenomena, which have been discussed in RELIABLE SOURCES. It is not simply for things that you believe are well-known. |
Personally, I think the inclusion of the Little Mermaid/Transformers trailer mashup in the same rarified Internet air as the Sharknado, SpongeBob and Shrek franchises is in poor taste. I am ignoring that the entry as is currently stands as a giant run-on sentence for now. In my personal opinion, having a coincidence that got a couple million views on Twitter, hasn't been picked up by any "respectable" outlets outside of the nerd sphere (Not even the local news out in Franklin, Tennessee) and isn't in the running to be added to the questionable meme wiki known as Know Your Meme does not count as an internet phenomena. I could talk about the memes that aren't on the list yet and absolutely deserve a place on the list, but that would be a waste of space.
If we consider this another piece of majestic "internet phenomena", Marjorie Taylor Greene would've been added to the Politics section before she even became a Congresswoman. IntMaMis ( talk) 23:09, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
I finally added Burger King's song to the list, guys! TCFLightyears93 ( group chat / contributions) 18:28, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
1) Honestly, what isn't on the internet nowadays? How can you have a phenomenon without it being an internet phenomenon -- how would it be spread? Print media? Chain letters? Telegraph? We could just call it "list of phenomena" practically.
2) Everything that's not bluelinked should go. "No article" is a clear unarguable bright line to trim this list to.
3) Some of these -- a few -- don't fit and should go -- I mean "smash or pass" f'rinstance is game people play at parties or just hanging around. I suppose people play or talk about it on the internet, but same for chess. Should we add chess. Herostratus ( talk) 05:21, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
