Classification

Labiatae to Lamiaceae

I have added a sentence explaining and giving reference for how the family name change came about, but have no reference to hand for the etymology of Lamiaceae. Mattymmoo ( talk) 07:50, 14 April 2017 (UTC) reply

Mint or Dead-nettle family, or both?

In my various sources, all books to do with UK botany, the Lamiaceae are called the Dead-nettle family. Elsewhere (especially in US sources on the web) it is called the Mint family. Is one of these names outdated? Or can they co-exist side by side? Whatever the answer, the text ought to be amended in some way to acknowledge the Dead-nettle family name, whether still in use or considered redundant. Jasper33 21:42, 10 May 2007 (UTC) reply

In April 2017 that is the case (dead-nettle/min). date of change unknown. Mattymmoo ( talk) 07:44, 14 April 2017 (UTC) reply

Trees

This page mentions that there are few trees in this family. Does anyone know what some of them are? I think that it would be interesting to link to them, especially if there are any notable ones. Cazort ( talk) 00:33, 18 August 2008 (UTC) reply

Teak Tectona grandis is one that comes to mind. Hardyplants ( talk) 01:51, 18 August 2008 (UTC) reply
I'm not up on what is in Lamiaceae and what is in Verbenaceae these days, but Vitex has trees. Kingdon ( talk) 05:14, 20 August 2008 (UTC) reply
It seems the two families are swapping out genre every few years now. Hardyplants ( talk) 06:26, 20 August 2008 (UTC) reply

Images

Nice photos especially the close up of the flower Leucas but perhaps the photos could show a selection of Lamiaceae. 78.151.207.130 ( talk) 20:21, 3 May 2009 (UTC) reply

Bad Link for Kalaharia

Genus Kalaharia redirects to a volcano? Is the redirection wrong or what? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.19.65.11 ( talk) 14:57, 25 February 2012 (UTC) reply

"Fixed" by misspelling kalaharia. Pls fix better. Jamesdowallen ( talk) 01:06, 29 February 2012 (UTC) reply

I changed the links to the volcano to point to the as-yet-redlinked Kalaharia (plant) using a piped link. Until an article can be created for something that has the same (ambiguous) name as an existing article, but a different meaning, this is a good stop-gap solution. Ideally, since Kalaharia is at present a redirect to Kalahari craton, the redirect should be made into a dab page, or disambiguation page, which I will do presently. Look at it shortly to see how I change it. Thanks, Hamamelis ( talk) 03:31, 29 February 2012 (UTC) reply
