How can it be 145 feet deep if the Jocassee gorges area is 300 feet beneath the surface of the lake? Is the 145' figure an average? JohnCub 18:16, 18 December 2006 (UTC) reply

The following commentary was added to the article - I've moved it here if someone wants to source it or turn it into encyclopedic content: "Lake Jocassee, which I am intimately familiar with, has a maximum depth of 350 ft. approximately. The average depth? I'm not sure it's ever been computed. Navy Seals train here. Contact Bruce O'Leary at the Pisgah Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway for an actual "real maximum depth". He's a deep diver who trains there. It is the most beautiful, inaccessible, profoundly beautiful lake in the southeastern USA, with the only native population of Canadian Loons in the Southeast as far as I know. As a Jocassee resident, who has traveled throughout Canada and Maine, that fact alone bewilders me. A glorious mystery within an enigma, that is Jocassee. Tread lightly." (from User:Stevetowe).
