Name has changed officially from 'Kerala' to 'Keralam'

News reference from The Hindu : https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/kerala/kerala-assembly-unanimously-passes-resolution-to-change-official-name-of-state-to-keralam/article67175490.ece

Kerala Assembly unanimously passes resolution to change official name of State to ‘Keralam’.

Also, the name of the state in Malayalam is Keralam and not kerala. Kerala is some englished version of the name Keralam. In all malayalam texts it is keralam.

As this is officially made, It should be changed here as well Afv12e ( talk) 04:23, 11 August 2023 (UTC) reply

Requested move 12 August 2023

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. It has been a long-standing consensus that any name changes need to fulfil WP:NAMECHANGES criteria for the article to be moved. Closing this as a snowball cause, and also not to mention that the nomination is factually incorrect (the name change did not occur). Kerala Keralam – The gov of Kerala now has officially changed the name to Keralam, see the above section for sources. AleksiB 1945 ( talk) 06:27, 12 August 2023 (UTC) reply

  • Oppose based on the evidence presented so far. Wikipedia does not necessarily use official names for its article titles. Instead, we rely on the common name used in reliable sources. For the page to be moved, it would need to fulfill the criteria at WP:NAMECHANGES, and it is not clear from the above that usage has changed. Dekimasu よ! 08:54, 12 August 2023 (UTC) reply

Name change - Why restricting ? Other articles has changed already for other places

The name of Wikipedia article allahabad is changed to Prayagraj once government changed the name officially. Why not this is happening for Kerala to Keralam in Wikipedia ? Afv12e ( talk) 03:53, 14 August 2023 (UTC) reply

Because the name is not changed. After the name change, it needs to fulfil WP:NAMECHANGES criteria — DaxServer ( t · m · e · c) 07:48, 14 August 2023 (UTC) reply

Chera and Kera

There is a claim seen that Kera came from Chera. Chera is the Malayalam word for Rat snake. And it is also seen that Kere is word for Rat snake in Kannada or some other Canara language. Check 117.221.183.140 ( talk) 07:43, 30 November 2023 (UTC) reply

Are you proposing any change to the article or presenting an original research fact? If the latter, this is not the place for that. Thanks. The Herald (Benison) ( talk) 09:20, 30 November 2023 (UTC) reply
