Genus versus family common names

Dictionary.com says that the common name kangaroo rat refers to the entire family Heteromyidae, not just Heteromys. -- Ptcamn 02:40, 26 August 2006 (UTC) reply

No one is going to call little Perognathus a kangaroo rat. The other genera tend to have other names that are more commonly used (such as kangaroo mice). The vast majority of the time that people say kangaroo rat, they're probably talking about Dipodomys. I tend to think that if we named every article by scientific name we'd alienate parts of our audience. -- Aranae 03:09, 26 August 2006 (UTC) reply

species names have been vandalized

The species names have been vandalized - someone who knows more about the topic than I needs to revise it or Wikipedia needs to change it back.

You could look through the history for older versions of the name. Just a little tip! kriscrash ( talk) 14:08, 19 March 2009 (UTC) reply

Found in Canada too?

Apparently Saskatchewan and Alberta have some type of Kangaroo rat too, and it's endangered, according to this: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/saskatchewan/story/2007/08/15/kangeroo-rats.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.11.98.236 ( talk) 00:55, 16 August 2007 (UTC) reply

Pets?

I've seen various different pages speaking of Kangaroo Rats as pets and even for sale. Is it common; or even legal to keep this little buggers as pets? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.24.164.8 ( talk) 01:43, 10 March 2009 (UTC) reply

Preaching

So someone changed the page to say that the similarities to jerboas are because they share a common creator and cited the bible as a citation. Is that acceptable?-- Ace Oliveira ( talk) 00:32, 3 November 2009 (UTC) reply
