Hello everyone! There is a discussion at List of countries by formation dates that concernes Ifni. It relates to the fact that some users include former colonies (such as Algeria or Western Sahara) in the columm for the last territorial changes of their respective colonial power, and this because "formely" such colonies were considered "provinces". Was Ifni part of the Spanish Africa?, or was it attached to Spanish Sahara or part of French Morroco. I've left the preceding state as Spanish Sahara. Please correct me if I'm wrong Kanto7 ( talk) 02:03, 25 February 2021 (UTC) reply

Ifni was ceded to Spain with the Treaty of Wad Ras on April 26 1860. Follow the wikilink to the treaty for references, and also see this link to www.worldstatesmen.org. From that point it is administered by the Spanish Western Sahara. Spain didn't do much about it immediately, and there very few settlements - Sidi Ifni was just a Marabout shrine with a few houses attached to it. The Treaty with France of 1912 reduces the territory of Ifni. In 1934 Ifni administration is transferred to Spanish Morocco, although not as part of the Protectorate (see the World Statesmen link for this too). That's when the city of Sidi Ifni was built with its characteristic art-deco style.-- Megustalastrufas ( talk) 09:43, 26 February 2021 (UTC) reply

This paragraph assigns intentions that are unverifiable, which are an indication of biased instead of factual statements "In the mid-19th century, when the European powers looked again to Africa for resources, Spain suddenly mooted an interest in its lost late medieval fortress in order to stake a claim to the southern part of Morocco. This served as a pretext for a short war with Morocco in 1859." Since a direct edit may spark controversy I am tagging it for now, to allow for discussion before the actual edit. Example with bias removed: "In the mid-19th century, Spain declared an interest in its lost late medieval fortress and other areas in the Northwest of Africa. In 1859, following a short war, this was one of the territories that Morocco ceded to Spain." If someone has a better proposal please indicate it in this discussion (but note that it must be written as facts that can be verified as true or false, not value judgements or opinions) - Ecrz ( talk) 02:18, 21 November 2022 (UTC) reply
