Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Rambot ( talkcontribs) 14:26, 27 July 2003 (UTC) reply

As you see, I've made some changes to improve this article. As there seems to be a variety of formats for presenting information, or more specically the order in which info is presented, I've made some shifts from my POV as priorities. Is there a formula? opening, geography, demographics, transport, government, tranportation, history????? Does it matter? Would like to help with more contributions to expand this piece which is not rated, but considered to be of high importance. Djflem 15:31, 7 July 2007 (UTC) reply

Now that article has been rated to be of B-scale, help with images, references, fact checking, copyediting, and concise contributions would seem to be in order. All help is appreciated. Djflem 19:26, 17 July 2007 (UTC) reply

Ethnic/economic diversity

Most people who live in Hudson experience the ethnic and economic diversity of the the city everyday, so it's quite easy to make statements about it. On the other hand there are people who fill the necessity of an encyclopedia to include substanciated facts. both are valid. i've included, by adding in the section Interesting facts that should satisfy both sides and hopefully will help with the Jersey City article as well. Politics

This section needs to go unless there is significant justification. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.80.116.183 ( talk) 00:37, 6 September 2007 (UTC) reply

Mergers, Incorporations, Boundaries

Anyone willing to sort this out to give a proper image of what took place? Section will need to go otherwise... Djflem 00:41, 6 September 2007 (UTC) reply

Most racially diverse

I'm changing the "Jersey City" thing that states this, as Jersey City is the most ethnically diverse (41 % of the population is Hispanic (which is not a race), much of it is middle eastern, and much of it is of Italian descent, and some Irish. Most Hispanics (if but barely)are White, Arabs are White, Italian and Irish people are defitnitely White. Thanks Iamanadam 16:14, 4 December 2007 (UTC) reply

Fair use rationale for File:HollandTunnelNYNJboarder.JPG

File:HollandTunnelNYNJboarder.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Laguardia

As discussed in another article, Laguardia is not in Hudson County. There is no reason to put it here except boosterism and WP:TRAVEL.There is plenty left to cover in this article that editors don't need to pretend that resources that aren't actually within the county need to be covered here. Suggest sticking to the WP:TOPIC. Student7 ( talk) 01:54, 3 January 2009 (UTC) reply

Exhibitions

I am removing the tag that demands "It needs sources or references that appear in third-party publications. Tagged since October 2010." and "It is written like an advertisement and needs to be rewritten from a neutral point of view." It doesn't need third party references to establish verifiability, those are needed only for notability. If each entry was to have their own article then we would need to have third party references to establish notability. It doesn't read like an ad at all, it is a list, there is just a few sentences of text and a list. -- Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) ( talk) 16:27, 20 October 2010 (UTC) reply

I've restored the tags. My concern is the section is being used to list and promote exhibitions that are not notable in their own right, and have no independent sources. The relevant policies are WP:RS (especially WP:SPS), WP:NOTADVERTISING, and WP:NPOV (especially WP:UNDUE). Sorry if the tags aren't a perfect fit for the situation.
"If each entry was to have their own article then we would need to have third party references to establish notability." I don't understand your meaning. Could you explain further? -- Ronz ( talk) 17:26, 20 October 2010 (UTC) reply
To verify an entry on a list the reference doesn't have to come from a third-party. Third party references are needed to establish notability for the topic of the article, in this case the topic is "Hudson County, New Jersey". I think you are arguing that there are too many museums and exhibition spaces listed. -- Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) ( talk) 18:00, 20 October 2010 (UTC) reply
Thanks for clarifying.
Could you address my concerns now, or do I need to explain them further?
It's not that there are too many listed, it's how the entries are being justified in the list, and the fact that this list is being used to promote exhibitions (sometimes through WP:REFSPAM). -- Ronz ( talk) 20:03, 20 October 2010 (UTC) reply

Bergen/New Jersey counties - demographics section upgrade

Transposed from Alansohn ( talk)'s talk page: Fabulous work on upgrading the Bergen County article, Alansohn, thank you! I think this should be kicked up another notch for New Jersey counties in general. Have you seen the Orange County, California article before, with its wealth of municipal demographic information? Let me know what you think of doing the same for New Jersey counties. Best, Castncoot ( talk) 17:41, 12 May 2015 (UTC) reply

In fact, now that I look at it, other California counties (e.g., Los Angeles County) are formatted the same way. Castncoot ( talk) 17:45, 12 May 2015 (UTC) reply
1. Agreed that you've (Alansohn) done a very good job on Bergen County, and a tremendous job of updating so much data for the state!
2. Also agree with Castncoot that the collapsible sections in Orange County make it much easier to read!
It's great to work with such dedicated people! Jacona ( talk) 17:55, 12 May 2015 (UTC) reply
Thanks for the thanks from both of you. I'm working my way through the counties by alphabetical order, updating geography, county government, politics and municipalities as a focus, with other edits as they arise. I think that the New Jersey county articles are a strong start, but where the California articles come off better is in history an other sections where there is greater work in prose and descriptions of geography, economy, sports and culture. I'd love to see one of the New Jersey county articles expanded using Orange, Los Angeles or Nape counties as a model, perhaps with one of the weaker county articles. Castncoot, kudos to you on the ethnodemographic side, which should be ported over to other counties, and I agree that Hudson County would be a good place to start, probably followed by Essex and Passaic in the area. JaconaFrere, I think that we are reaching some sort of consensus on some of the wording for area and other data, and I hope that we can mutually agree on some wording that would allow us to use AWB (or other tools) to apply the changes on a more consistent, thorough and faster basis. It's amazing what one person can do, but all the more work can be accomplished working together. Alansohn ( talk) 18:05, 12 May 2015 (UTC) reply
Sounds like a plan. Castncoot ( talk) 21:13, 12 May 2015 (UTC) reply
As far as the wording on the land/water area goes, I think I like the "including" or "composed of" wording best. Anything to get rid of that extra comma and the two "of it"s. Jacona ( talk) 21:54, 12 May 2015 (UTC) reply
Will transpose this thread to the Talk page of Hudson County. Castncoot ( talk) 20:58, 13 May 2015 (UTC) reply

--- Will leave a period for others to comment upon before this is embarked upon for Hudson County. Castncoot ( talk) 21:02, 13 May 2015 (UTC) reply

--- OK, subsection started here, and similarly started in the Jersey City article, given that Jersey City constitutes the predominance of Hudson County's diversity and has a total population greater than several New Jersey counties themselves. Castncoot ( talk) 18:16, 16 May 2015 (UTC) reply

Elected Positions Out of Date

I noticed that the elected positions are out of date. I updated the names/dates for the Commissioners. Does anyone know the term expiration for the Surrogate and Sheriff? Acebarry ( talk) 02:57, 1 December 2020 (UTC) reply
