Milestones revision

Seems like a majority of the "milestones" actually have nothing to do with the rodeo? Are these necessary? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.44.220.140 ( talk) 13:23, 26 January 2022 (UTC) reply

Can anyone upload a logo for the event itself? I know they'res two, just find them. I'm not being lazy or anything it's just that I am just an anynumous user, and has the disability to do that.

"Legends" list needs revising...

The sentence or the list needs to be done. I don't think "The Cheetah Girls" or "Hannah Montana" quite qualify for "legend" status quite yet.

Parade and BBQ

I believe that this particular section should be expanded a bit more since they're major events themselves. In light of the fact that they don't have their own wikipedia pages, they need to be expanded until they have enough information to do so.

If possible, a list of the PREVIOUS year's lineup should be started (if not able to get previous ones) as an archive. -- Hourick 14:18, 16 June 2007 (UTC) reply

added a few sections, but haven't gotten to the Parade section yet. Also, the trail ride section needs a bit beefing up. -- Hourick 14:33, 17 June 2007 (UTC) reply

WikiChart problems...

Wikichart needs to be fixed to go in proper position. I can't quite figure out how to fix. -- Hourick 04:36, 17 June 2007 (UTC) reply

What's the problem? Postoak 04:38, 17 June 2007 (UTC) reply
The Top Five Attendance chart is located towards the bottom of the article (below external links), but it should actually be up where the Attendance section should be.-- Hourick 05:16, 17 June 2007 (UTC) reply

But I have a problem, several regarding layout:

  • I could go ahead and put the entire list (chronologically) on a separate page that can be easily updated..but.
  • I would like to post previous attendance stats that can be updated fairly easily.
  • The Current year stats on the main article page is fine, but it will have to be removed eventually or else the article will be very cluttered.

2008 & 2009 boycotts

The Houston Chronicle reported the 2008 cry from LULAC urging Hispanics to boycott the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo for discriminating against Tejano music after the scandalous death of Selena that shattered the Latino community in Houston. Surfacing for 2009, the professional cowboy association's members discuss their publishing a boycott statement about the faulty floor conditions inside the arena. Media Center Director Suzanne Brack said that these organizations aren't big enough to make a difference, with the huge governing conglomerates of the state utility commission and Harris County overseeing funding as they hand out pet charity. Animal rescue activists are now fighting for the end of horse slaughter in the U.S. (the #1 cause of horse thefts), and looking at the crippling injuries from ill designed concrete superstructures filled with unstable rodeo topping, as we've watched contestants slide into concrete wall, and horses pull tendons. Since the move from the Astrodome to Reliant, the quality of the HLSR has diminished. The committees have forgotten about the cowboys. StationNT5Bmedia ( talk) 03:00, 6 March 2009 (UTC) reply

Should I put ALL of the stats on the same page and have it linked to the appropriate header?

No, these are separate stats, each with separate external links. The LULAC link will be with the Houston Chronicle. Selena & Emilio links will be with ABC13-Disney. PRCA & PRBA links will be with The Associated Press - New York. Existing links with the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo can be used for the press statements made by Ms. Suzanne Brack at their media center. Also, you should use a quadruple tilge to sign your comments. StationNT5Bmedia ( talk) 18:01, 9 March 2009 (UTC) reply

Protests began in 2008 with acts booked for 'Go Tejano Day', the RodeoHouston's end of events. But protests included urging a boycott for various issues, not all under one topic as early as Jan. 30, 2008. Visit http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=5983928 , or http://www.click2houston.com/news/18814183/detail.html for more. Embarrassingly enough, Tejano singer 'Emelio' totalled his tour bus in Houston the same week en route to Victoria, and was later charged with DWI after district attorneys determined his head injuries non-debilitating. Johnny Mata with the American GI Forum criticized the rodeo media center for not booking Tejano singers in any performances of the nightly 3 week season, and other groups held a rally March 10, 2008 to protest the 2008 'Go Tejano Day' RodeoHouston events, and organizational management. Feb 27, 2009 Click2Houston ... Sheriff Adrian Garcia backed-out of an invitation to co-marshal the RodeoHouston Parade in consideration of minority protests about inequality. See how the story was broadcast locally at http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/6285183.html
Sen. Mario Gallegos introduced a Texas state bill to regulate the HLSR non-profit organization. QuanellX said boycott protests will continue. Leroy Shafer replied the HLSR has exclusive rights. Ramon Ayala Breaks Attendance Record

It should be noted that he broke Miley Cyrus' attendance record this year (2009). Someone needs to update the all-time attendance record to reflect that. I don't know how to actually do that, sorry. Here's a link to prove it: http://houston.bizjournals.com/houston/stories/2009/03/16/daily5.html 70.129.7.74 ( talk) 18:48, 19 March 2009 (UTC) reply

External Links

While reading through this article, I realized that two of the external links, are outdated/broken. These links are from 2011. This is clearly a yearly event, so I would suggest for this to be updated perhaps yearly. Jnieto01 ( talk) 21:08, 1 April 2017 (UTC) reply

Well-Rounded HLSR Experience

There are a series of elements/events that make-up the HLSR experience. These are all in the HLSR website but not all are covered in this article, among these the western heritage that the Rodeo reflects and the educational opportunities it offers. More so, I think the Carnival and Food deserve a section of its own in this article. As well as the show prior to the concerts, I know the calf scramble is touched upon, but there is more to the show than just this. The focus on agriculture education and educational opportunities that the Rodeo puts forth through scholarships and the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program - also listed on the HLSR website - should be further discussed. I would also suggest mentioning sponsors/talking about sponsorship. Overall, I make these suggestions, so that future readers can get a better understanding of what the HoustonRodeo is and what the HoustonRodeo does for its community. List of entertainers

I'd like to take out the list of entertainers. I think this takes up too much of the article and really doesn't add much. Any thoughts/protests? Karanacs ( talk) 18:56, 11 April 2017 (UTC) reply
