As authority for my extra material may I cite Frederick Jones 'John Bull's Other Ireland' in "Dalhousie Review" Summer 1975, pp 227 -235 , with its footnotes..

If it did not become a dominion until 1907, then what is the heading Dominion of Newfoundland doing well before the mid19th century?

15th/16th century history

Greetings. I think, the early part of the history, especially in the 15th/16th century, really needs more coverage. E.g., there are until today a lot of portuguese geograpical designations out there, which give proof of the portuguese involvement in this area at that time.
