i am studying this in school and saw a video on it. The horrible conditions these poor people had to live in! Sickness everywhere, Lack of food people dying before their eyes! How could these people have done this? All i know is that these people are true American heroes! 68.196.121.7 22:01, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Patriot678 reply

Because during the American Revolution it was axiomatic that captors didn't have to look aftr their captives; the captives own side had to provide everything. That is why so many died; because George Washington had food directed to his fighting men rather than the PoWs. Because the British were just as brutal then as they are now. They stole all the food sent to them by the Continental Congress and Gen. Washington for their own use. These ships should be classified as the British equivalent to later nazi death camps. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.32.9.29 ( talk) 23:22, 20 July 2012 (UTC) reply

This article could be B-class were it not for the poor reference citing. All the refs aside from the one I just added for the technical data are grouped on one paragraph which seems unlikely... much of the article is therefore unreferenced at present.
