Capitalization of the title

Why is “south” capitalized? The title is in lowercase or sentence case, except for this. If it is a proper name, then it should be in title case. If it is not, then this common adjective should be lowercased, as south of Russia is not a proper name.

What is the source of this name anyway? There is nothing directly cited, and I don’t recall ever seeing it elsewhere.  — Michael  Z. 08:32, 9 March 2023 (UTC) reply

Requested move 23 March 2023

The result of the move request was: merge to Ukrainian–Soviet War. This is a rare closure of an RM, but WP:XFD lists this as a valid outcome, so... ( closed by non-admin page mover) {{ping| ClydeFranklin}} ( t/ c) 01:54, 14 April 2023 (UTC) reply

Group of forces in battle with the counterrevolution in the South of Russia → ? – This article title is unwieldly, but I don't know of a good name for this "military unit". Should be moved somewhere though. • Comment: This is a direct translation of the unit's Russian name, so I don't see why it matters if it's "unwieldy". What I'm concerned with here is the capitalization. Does this follow the manual of style for Russian? Festucalextalk 05:53, 24 March 2023 (UTC) reply
Translation of a proper name is normally in title case. But merely a descriptive title would be in sentence case. These are general practices, not specific to Russian.  — Michael  Z. 14:48, 25 March 2023 (UTC) reply
Change. Does this title appear in even a single source (a quick look at Google books results is inconclusive). What do sources call it? Something like Southern Group of Forces (Russia) seems much more in line with titling guidelines.  — Michael  Z. 14:46, 25 March 2023 (UTC) reply
  • merge this into Ukrainian-Soviet War it doesn't have any inline cations and is somehow longer than the two RS in the refs that are specifically about this— blindlynx 16:06, 6 April 2023 (UTC) reply
  • Merge I suspect this "title" is the translation of a descriptive title in another encyclopedia, rather than an actual name that the army would have recognized. Much of the article is an (unsourced) order of battle that should probably be jettisoned. The rest would be better merged to Ukrainian–Soviet War. Walt Yoder ( talk) 23:48, 6 April 2023 (UTC) reply
