This article needs...

The state of this article is abysmal:

  • It has virtually no sources.
  • Much of the material is more suited to a tour guide than Wikipedia.

If I can get up the energy, in the next few days I plan to take an axe and chop out at least some of the inappropriate material. Finding sources may be much trickier! -- Larry/Traveling_Man ( talk) 06:27, 24 November 2017 (UTC) reply

Is anything in this article based on a reliable source?

Much of the information in this article seems to be based on https://www.desertusa.com/desert-arizona/grand-canyon-caverns.html , but there's no indication where that article got its information. While I like DesertUSA, I'm not sure it qualifies as a reliable source. It buys articles for $50, but there's no indication of editorial oversight. The list of staff doesn't mention any writers. -- Larry/Traveling_Man ( talk) 17:36, 24 November 2017 (UTC) reply

For some reason, I assumed that the Grand Canyon Caverns website had borrowed from the above link. It occurs to me that it might very well be the other way around. Either, way, there's no reliable source. -- Larry/Traveling_Man ( talk) 17:58, 24 November 2017 (UTC) reply

More cutting

Since I haven't found much in the way of reliable sources, I've had to decide just what to delete. I hesitate to turn the article into a stub -- which would be justified according to policy -- but I am deleting:

  • breathless prose, e.g., "Not one to give up on entrepreneurial opportunities,"
  • peripheral items, e.g., info about the giant sloth
  • items of lesser noteworthiness

I surrender; delete the rest if you wish

I nibbled around the edges, but didn't find much in the way of sources. Perhaps there are sources to be found, but I suspect that much of the information comes from claims on the Grand Canyon Caverns web site, which is more like family lore than a reliable source. I don't have the heart to do it, but I wouldn't object if somewhere deleted virtually all text, since it has no reliable source. -- Larry/Traveling_Man ( talk) 02:37, 27 November 2017 (UTC) reply
