Interesting observation: I have witnessed one of these normally vegetarian creatures eating roadkill. I stood less than a foot away while the specimen took an edge of an entire (what seemed to once be a opposum)in it's mouth and attempted to chew and tear off a piece. I was an employee of a wildlife park in central Fl at the time. Take it for what it is worth. The roadkill was very flat and very dry. Perhaps this tortoise had had enough of the grasses along the road and decided to try meat.
