The lead sentence describes Goldfield as a "semi-abandoned ghost town". It is certainly not what it was during the boom days, but this description seems greatly exaggerated. Any thoughts?

The Stranger
It was filmed in and around Goldfield. I was living there when they filmed. They made promises to many locals to give them credit for services (bike mechanic, tow truck driver), and locations (the Mason Lodge still has stains from fake blood). They didn't name anyone from or anywhere in Goldfield in the credits. They even changed where they filmed in the description/credits. They made quite a few people very unhappy.

Also, Coaldale, NV is an old truck stop. There's nothing there but a gas station and restaurant. There's no "town", there never was.

I had a hard time finding a source for The Stranger being filmed at Goldfield, but I did find one and updated the article. I'm worried that the source could have used Wikipedia as a source, which is a no-no. One of Wikipedia's policies is
no original research, so your first person account needs collaboration. I have not seen the film, and you say that you were there when it was filmed, so while I believe you, I need reliable secondary source for this information to appear in the article. I looked at
Google Books and
newspapers.com and found nothing about The Stranger and Goldfield. Interestingly, there is also not much about The Stranger being filmed at
Coaldale, Nevada either. The main source seems to be
IMDB, which is not particularly reliable, see
Wikipedia:Citing IMDb. I suppose we could mark that as needing a citation as well. However, I'm willing to leave it be for now and keep an eye out for better references. See also
Wikipedia:"In popular culture" content.
I agree that
Coaldale, Nevada was a truck stop with a gas station and restaurant. There are many opinions about what makes a geographic location notable, see
WP:GEOLAND and
Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Geography. Personally, I believe that Coaldale is marginally notable, it has some media coverage including an article that is about the location. Other editors almost certainly would have different opinions. If you feel that Coaldale is not notable, then you could nominate it for deletion see
WP:AFDHOWTO (which is a bit complex) or just add a
Notability template to the Coaldale article.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens
Why is Mark Twain mentioned as a notable person of Goldfield? He was born in Missouri, and wrote no books about Goldfield. The page about Mark Twain's visit to Nevada makes no mention of Goldfield, so why is he listed as notable?
