Gaya one of the seven holiest cities of India should have its own space. --

The statement that Gaya has the only international airport in Bihar is not correct. Patna is also an international airport. I'll come back and fix this when I am logged in. —Preceding

This is not an article from Gaya city, but Gaya district
As habitual the confusion betweeen district and city: the city has, according the article, near 3.500.000, that is the districte population. Lot af places quoted are from the district (that has article own) instead the city. All the articles about indian districts ans its capitals must be revised, and, when adequate, corrected.--

Agreed, the article lacks focus and is misleading. I placed an appropriate tag on the main page. Much of the content needs to be moved to the district article, and the rest needs to be reviewed.

Modification on Gaya: Transportation section
Hello,
I have made some changes on how well connected Gaya is. Hope it is accepted as they are the latest info. Few distance numbers were incorrect and I have modified them. Please let me know if anyone finds them objectionable.
I have removed Business Section where mention of zenith studio is given as pioneer of business. Its a small famous studio in gaya but its not at all pioneer of business. Its very much biased and hence I have deleted it.
Article Contents and headings need reorganization.
I think page headings are not properly organised. Headings like Importance to Hindu Religion, Holy sites in Gaya, Jama Masjid, Shrine of Hazrat Makhdoom Syed Shah Durwesh Ashraf, Baitul Anwar may be clubbed into one. Also the ordering is not proper. More information like climate and culture should be included. As the page is a part of several WikiProjects and represents an important City and tourist place, standards should be kept in mind during eit. — Preceding

Considering the importance of the article across multiple wiki projects, we need some good images for inclusion. I can see many historical images at bl.uk, but not sure of copyright rules. — Preceding

Requested move 31 October 2016
The following is a closed discussion of a
requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a
move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Not moved – Despite cogent arguments by the nominator, there is wide-ranging and policy-supported consensus to keep

Gaya, India →
Gaya – Gaya, India is the most notable subject under the name Gaya. It should have its own page. Gaya, India has history dating back to
600 BC, it is
holy city for Buddhism and Hinduism and is still in existence till date. Other Gayas are much younger relatively. Gaya, India gets more page views than all others. Google also provides more search results for it.

It's unfortunate that the discussion in here rather than on
Talk:Gaya so Nigeria, Niger and Korea editors would also be equally aware of this proposal. Imagine if we were starting on
Talk:Gaya, Nigeria and India editors were not notified. Re the proposal clear oppose since there's no evidence provided (and none evident in books) that this Gaya of all those on the target dab list is the overwhelming natural meaning with long term significance outnumbering all others combined. It isn't.

In ictu oculi: It has always been this way, discussions happen on the page which has to be moved. I don't know if it's a policy or not but it always happens this way. You can post a talk page message on
Talk:Gaya about it. For further awareness, you could post at Noticeboards of Nigeria, Niger, Korea and India. Just make sure everyone of them is informed, otherwise it might come under
WP:CANVASS. Now talking about the long term significance, Gaya (India) has history dating back to
600 BC, other
Gaya subjects are much much younger.
Gaya confederacy has ancient establishment but no existence after 5th century AD. Gaya, India has existence even today and is one of
Holy city of Buddhism and Hinduism. A google search or google books search clearly gives more results for Indian Gaya compared to all others.

In ictu oculi (

In ictu oculi: Why didn't you call
User:Filpro out for cherry-picking those other "Gaya"s that got the lowest page-view results? This one gets considerably fewer views than
Bodh Gaya, so it isn't even our most-viewed page on the topic of "Gaya, India".
Hijiri 88 (
聖やや) 02:58, 13 November 2016 (UTC)reply
The name of place is Bodh Gaya and not Gaya. Unlike other pages compared here, the word Bodh is a part of its name and is not merely added to disambiguate it from other Gaya's.

In ictu oculi:see for yourself (uncheck Logarithmic scale). All the other "Gaya x" articles comprise less than half the page views of Gaya, India. It is quite clear which is the

Dicklyon: which part of 'It is the most notable subject under the name' was difficult to understand? It has history dating back to
600 BC, other cities are relatively much younger. It's history alone could make another article. And topics with long term significance are considered primary topics (see
WP:PRIMARYTOPIC).
Pratyush (
talk) 06:55, 1 November 2016 (UTC)reply
Notability and age have nothing to do with primarytopic.
Dicklyon (
talk) 15:07, 1 November 2016 (UTC)reply
Exactly. And neither age nor notability have any signficant bearing on those.
Dicklyon (
talk) 15:35, 1 November 2016 (UTC)reply
But sir, the second point of
WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, clearly mentions a subject is primary if it has more notability. Quoting WP:PRIMARYTOPIC "A topic is primary for a term, with respect to long-term significance, if it has substantially greater enduring notability and educational value than any other topic associated with that term". As for the first point, it also has more usage. You can try a google search yourself. Gaya, India gets more page views. More wiki pages
link to Gaya, India. Even Simple English wiki has a page of Gaya, India with the name Gaya. There are no absolute rules to determine notability, but google search, page views and other methods mentioned in
WP:DETERMINEPRIMARY are currently the best tools we have to determine primary topic. If there are better methods, then please mention them.
Pratyush (
talk) 16:29, 1 November 2016 (UTC)reply
oppose there is no solid proof that this meaning is more significant than the others. The fact that it is an old city means nothing. It still doesn't mean that if you say the word Gaya, people would immediately associate an Indian city.
Gaya should be a disambig page and all other meanings should have disambig tags.
Gaya, India and
Gaya, Nigeria and
Gaya confederacy is good enough. Page views ans google search are not relevant to decide superiority.
Teemeah편지 (letter) 13:15, 1 November 2016 (UTC)reply

Teemeah: so what determines a primary topic if according to you,
WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and
WP:DETERMINEPRIMARY are good for nothing. And it does not matter what people associate to or what comes first in your mind (see
WP:NWFCTM), there will be obvious regional biases. Better way is to check google results and they clearly associate Gaya to Gaya, India.
Pratyush (

What canvassing? The Korea Wikiproject was rightfully notified of this discussion because one article in our scope is affected. There was no mass notification of users. So only India project related people can express their opinions? Isn't that canvassing?
Teemeah편지 (letter) 15:21, 1 November 2016 (UTC)reply
The problem is not with notifying Korea or Nigeria WikiProject, the problem is India WikiProject should have been notified at the same time, which was not done. This clearly indicates the motive was not to generate a better discussion but to gain more oppose votes.
Pratyush (
talk) 15:30, 1 November 2016 (UTC)reply
Oppose As much as it pains me to take the same "side" as a certain passive-aggressive user who posted an oppose !vote without actually using the word, this RM clearly was not thought through. Yes, the Gaya of this article is probably the most notable "Gaya", but that is not a good argument for moving, since there are three separate articles whose titles include "Gaya" and are essentially on the same "Gaya", and this one being the one more than 50% of our readers are looking for is not likely. See
this pageview comparison between this article and
Bodh Gaya. When we
combine this figure with the pageviews for
Gaya district, the results are almost twice that of this article. If all three of our articles on the Gaya region in India were merged into one (an outlandish possibility), then that article would almost certainly be the
WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, but this one doesn't even have the most individual page-views, let alone more than all the others combined.
Hijiri 88 (
聖やや) 02:55, 13 November 2016 (UTC)reply
Gaya district and
Gaya, India are quite evidently distinct. It would be similar to saying
Delhi and
New Delhi are the same thing. Gaya district is a subdivision (also see
Districts of India) while Gaya, India is a city and headquarters of Gaya district.
Bodh Gaya is distinct from both and is a town some 10 km south of Gaya,India. It is requested to read the articles to know the difference. Gaya district should contain the word district as it is a convention for Indian district articles (see
Category:Districts of India). Bodh Gaya does contain the word Gaya but to consider it or
Eiji Gaya or
Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya as the primary topic for Gaya would be a crime. They only get mentioned in disambiguation pages as they contain the word Gaya. These pages are not considered in the discussion for primary topic they cannot exist as an article with name "Gaya". Saying that Gaya, India gets page views because of Bodh Gaya is a mere assumption. Gaya, India is the
2nd largest city of
Indian state which has population of over 100 million and
has its own importance.
Pratyush (
talk) 11:35, 13 November 2016 (UTC)reply
You just don't get it, do you? It's not about what entities are distinct. It's about what entities have the same or similar names and what our readers are probably looking for.
Hijiri 88 (
聖やや) 22:25, 13 November 2016 (UTC)reply
Bodh Gaya may be more popular than Gaya, India (based on page views), but there is no evidence to prove that Gaya, India gets the views because of its name being similar to Bodh Gaya. As I have already mentioned above, "Gaya, India" is a major Indian city
having an international airport and has
religious importance distinct from Bodh Gaya, so it can get page views on its own.
Pratyush (
talk) 11:28, 15 November 2016 (UTC)reply
Oppose. This nomination is fundamentally flawed; how old something is is quite irrelevant, and the other topics appear to be just as relevant / desired by users.
SnowFire (
talk) 08:13, 15 November 2016 (UTC)reply
There is more than just age in the nomination, kindly re-read it. Please also read the discussions. Page views and Google show that Gaya, India is more relevant/desired by the users. And If there are better method apart from these, then do share it.
Pratyush (
talk) 11:28, 15 November 2016 (UTC)reply
No, I looked at the pageviews of Gaya, India vs. the pageviews of the other notable Gayas. There are more for the other ones combined, and sometimes that might be okay to have a primary topic with ~30-40% of the net pageviews, but that's often where the other articles are later versions of the same topic, rather than being completely independent.
SnowFire (
talk) 18:26, 15 November 2016 (UTC)reply
Read the linked guideline? The very short version: if Article A has 100 pageviews, Article B has 10, and Article C has 5, then Article A is the primary topic. If Article A has 100, B 70, and C 30, then it could go either way and is borderline. If Article A has 100, B has 50, C has 30, D has 10, E has 10, F has 5, G has 5, which is closer to reality here, Article A is probably not the primary topic, barring a really compelling argument - perhaps some of those other articles are "descendents" or related to Article A, perhaps.
SnowFire (
talk) 18:29, 15 November 2016 (UTC)reply
On
comparing average page views of Gaya's, "Gaya, India" has 420, "Gaya district" get 109, "Gaya confederacy" has 84, "Gaya language" has 32, "Gaya, Niger" has 8, "Gaya, Nigeria" has 6, "Gaya Quartet" has 2, "Gaya, Line" has 2, "Gaya Department" has 1. Adding all (except Gaya, India) we get 244 pageviews, while Gaya, India has 420 pageviews alone. Quite clearly, Gaya, India is
WP:PRIMARYTOPIC.
