Hm. This article says that the fortress was taken in 1757 but my search indicates 1758. Which is correct? Please input this sentence if it is right: "The island battery at Fortress Louisbourg was silenced on July 25, 1758 and all French warships were destroyed or taken." And hmmm from me as well re: Fortress Louisbourg, and I quote: "In 1745, a force from New England captured the fortress." It is my understanding that it was a force from ENGLAND... not the United States. Does someone out there know? I'm pretty sure I'm correct! Also re: Cape Breton history - John Cabot did not "discover" Cape Breton; the Mi'kmaq were here before he was! Thanks!

Well, Cabot was the first European, etc etc...however, in 1745 I thought it was a militia from New England. I don't really recall at the moment though :) Adam Bishop 05:20, 16 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Keep in mind that in 1745 the United States did not exist as such - they were still colonies of Great Britain. Is it possible that it was a force of british regulars stationed in new england or something? This seems a likely source of confusion. - lommer 19:30, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I enjoyed this article however, I found its lack of an adequate number of sources discouraging. To fix this problem, I intend to expand the section of the 1758 siege and add several credible sources to back my work. Would be careful useinf Fowler as a source, having tryed to use his book "Empires at war" to write grad paper, i found he has some books/ documents listed in his bib that don't seem to exsist. there seems to be a lot of this artical that is lifted word for word from said work with out the proper notation, -bondo

The use of stamps here seems to be primarily as cheap illustrations, which is not a legitimate fair use. I don't know of any of way in which the stamps are of interest in themselves, they are are just random commems. Stan 18:27, 16 April 2007 (UTC) reply

There should be two new articles on both sieges (of 1745 and 1758), and the better titles would be First Siege of Louisbourg and Second Siege of Louisbourg Sbmcmull 15:11, 18 July 2007
