FiDi?

On July 20, 2007, ChrisRuvolo removed part of the article that abbreviated "Financial District" to "FiDi". I think this abbreviation is silly, but people use it. As an example, I noticed today that there is an advertising banner on the new high-rise condo building under construction on the southeast corner of New Street and Exchange Place, and the banner says something about the company's new residences in FiDi. Very few people use this abbreviation in conversation... I agree that it should be mentioned in the article, but the article should definitely be titled "Financial District" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.22.224.239 ( talk) 19:57, 18 February 2008 (UTC) reply

FiDi is a term invented by developers to lessen the stigma of the "Financial District". Nobody really uses it otherwise. Probably because it's so terrible and should just fade away to never be remembered. 66.108.139.148 ( talk) 11:00, 16 June 2008 (UTC) reply

The fact that it IS used is reason enough to include it. Since Financial District is the more common term, though, FiDi should remain as a redirect. Trying to reconcile this policy with another silly-named neighborhood of DUMBO, Brooklyn could be a challenge, though. If someone knows how to pronounce FiDi and could add it, that would be helpful, since it's really not intuitive. Sme3 ( talk) 18:08, 6 August 2008 (UTC) reply

It is only used by real estate developers and agents. Not notable enough for inclusion. Having a redirect is fine though. -- ChrisRuvolo ( t) 19:24, 6 August 2008 (UTC) reply
Maybe in 2008. Now everyone is using it. Time to add it back. -- FeldBum ( talk) 19:12, 3 December 2014 (UTC) reply
