I removed the third reference which was listing other cities because it contains a reference that links to a page that no longer exists so it can't be verified, thus it isn't a true source anymore. Suggestion about Tokyo
Wouldn't it be fair to include Tokyo in the list of the major fashion capitals? In today's fashion, it truly seems to be no less important than the other four. Tokyo has had ties to high-fashion for centuries, and more recently, they are a major epicenter of modern fashion.
I agree, Tokyo is a great influence in fashion these days. Japan in particular has a great many diverse styles not seen in other parts of the world (like Lolita fashion, for instance) and these trends have great impact on world fashion as well. - This is true, Tokyo is a major emerging fashion capital, but in the Global Language Monitor it came 12th in 2009, and even though it has been mentioned as an influential city in fashion, it still does not have a status comparable to Milan, New York City, Paris, Rome, London or Los Angeles. In the references directory, there is absolutely NO PROOF that Seoul, Korea, Tel Aviv, Israel, and Turin, Italy are fashion capitals. So if anyone would like to post a reference why these cities are fashion capitals, then do so. Because until then, I am removing these three cities from the list...and they SHALL STAY removed until there is actual proof that they are otherwise. -- Ashley-kun
I have been an editor of the 'Fashion capital' page and someone has had a very biased view on Paris (which I have changed, by the way). Paris is not the fashion capital of the world and hasn't been for over 15 years! Milan is, and according to the Global language monitor, Paris is third! I even have some French friends who say that Paris' fashion has fallen into huge decadence and the October Paris Fashion show is way less stylish than the Milan one!!!!!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.240.42.70 ( talk) 12:30, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
Can someone please stop replacing Milan or other cities with Melbourne. Melbourne is a far minor fashion capital, and unless there is reliable and accurate proof that Melbourne is the fashion capital of the world, it cannot be listed in themain list of world fashion capitals. Someone is constantly rewording phrases to make Melbourne look like the top city in fashion, but if it even is a fashion capital, it is far minor compared to Milan, New York City, London and Paris. I've tried to improve this page as I was a bit horrified to discover such a wholesale focus on the work of Global Language Monitor. Not only was there copyright violation, with direct copying from its own rankings (wordings were copy paste and entirely unencyclopaedic), but it skewed the whole article towards its rankings...other perspectives do exist and the article needs to have a much broader and more solid historical context. I've added a new paragraph giving a defnition of a fashion capital (backed with further sources) and tried generally to pin down some suitable references throughout. This still needs improving and additional refs need to be sourced for the section on History – I'm still looking for a good ref for the rise of New York as it's a very important chapter. - Indeed, this article is one big advertising, despite the fact that there are genuine and even scientifically approved lists out there (McKinsey, IFDAQ, WGSN, Bain etc). Just read one and that's how I ended up here after searching for fashion capitals. Anyone up to improve the article and invest some time here?

- Very happy to help. I am doing a research on this topic for my thesis. I found the ranking by Professor Godart from the IFDAQ that is also mentioned in the article.

I removed the rankings and commentary, as they are not really by some well-established fashion authority but by a random language based firm. Yes, this gets some attention in the media, as it makes for easy articles, but it isn't really something we should so extensively and exclusively promote as of this is some scientific, official ranking of fashion cities.
