Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help.

Sheesh. An article about Erie County that rambles on about irrelevant loyalists in Tryon County but never once mentions the Holland Land Company. Kind of like writing about Massachusetts without ever mentioning the pilgrims. I'll take a stab at it when I get some time. Guybrarian ( talk) 17:26, 27 November 2008 (UTC) reply

Present-day Erie County was NEVER a part of Albany County. This part of the country was still Indian territory in 1683! Western NY was not officially owned by the US until after the Revolutionary War. 71.243.150.135 ( talk) 04:19, 27 November 2008 (UTC) reply

Realizing that some of the towns contain villages with the same names also helps. Tmesipt. 2.20.04.

Finished subordinate political units and other places someone put here. Tmesipt. 3.1.04.

West Seneca is not a city in New York State! It is a town in Erie County, New York. Author, Please correct the footnote summary.

Does anyone have historical census info? It would be good to see since the Buffalo Population has fallen so much and some attribute it to white flight to the suburbs.

Responding to the above, I did that analysis about a year ago for a paper I wrote, I can see if it's still kicking around somewhere. Long story short Buffalo proper shrinks since early to mid 20th century while the aggregate of all other municipalities in the county grows; the growth in the aggregated suburban communities, however, does not outstrip the population loss demonstrated in the city proper and the county still shrinks. Missing

The following municipalities are missing: Derby, New York, and Snyder, New York.-- TonyTheTiger ( t/ c/ bio/ WP:CHICAGO/ WP:LOTM) 14:03, 8 April 2009 (UTC) reply

I added them. 1archie99 ( talk) 15:51, 27 October 2011 (UTC) reply

West of Canada-US Border

The lead has "To the north of the Canada–US border is the province of Ontario." Shouldn't that be "To the west…"? The border is on the western edge of the county, and the province of Ontario is on the west of that border. -- papageno ( talk) 03:11, 18 December 2016 (UTC) reply

You're absolutely right Qui1che, the only immediately adjacent portion of Canada is to the west. More importantly, I can't fathom why this particular point of relative geography needs to be mentioned in the lede (it's covered in the Adjacent counties and municipality section, and I don't think it's a truly defining characteristic of the county), so I've removed it altogether. But if it's restored: Yep, it's to the west, for sure. Thanks - Antepenultimate ( talk) 03:54, 18 December 2016 (UTC) reply
OK, glad the error is corrected. I'll let regular editors of this article decide if it belongs in the lede or not. -- papageno ( talk) 04:22, 19 December 2016 (UTC) reply

Mark P. Addition?

There really should be an addition of Mark Poloncarz as a standalone article; Joel Giambra, the former county exec, has one, and Mark definitely meets the criteria for notoriety. 2603:7080:6701:32E6:9D5A:AD86:6A85:20BF ( talk) 02:29, 26 March 2024 (UTC) reply
