Is Environmental management only about carrying capacity? I think it also deals with the value of the nature and people's perception of it. Besides, a holistic manner of management and its implications demand changes of social structures (maybe) and governance. Today's Environmental management, I think, has a much broader meaning than before and is evolving continuously. -- Alex 13:28, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
sustainibility and sustainable development are huge parts of EM and should be mentioned. 86.43.66.87 09:56, 28 September 2007 (UTC)environmental scientist
Hey there
My name is Rob from macquarie University. It was our task to edit this page however we have noticed someone has changed this article back to it's original form after we have much expanded upon it. I would be interested to know why? Do you disagree with the changes we have made? Perhaps we can reach some sort of understanding. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Robbiee 88 ( talk • contribs) 03:55, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Hello! It’s Kirily, Hala and Marcella and we are Master’s students from Macquarie University’s Graduate School of the Environment in Australia. Environmental resource management is our area of expertise and we have undertaken a few edits to contribute to this page. We have initially altered throughout the page ‘environmental management’ to ‘environmental resource management’ to be consistent with the title of this page and some small grammatical errors have been changed. We hope we can work together to improve this page. KirilyS ( talk) 04:41, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
Hello everyone - I've made some preliminary edits to 'The Ethical Aspect' section in an effort to promote a neutral point of view (NPOV) in the section. The process of editing this section is still ongoing, but preliminarily I have tried to retain and verify previous content using verifiable sources; include additional citations where appropriate; and create a brief summary of the relevance of this issue to environmental resource management based on verifiable sources as well. I've included a few new headings and subheadings in the article to reflect the complex nature of environmental resource management (as per port by Alex 2006 (above). These have included (in addition to the post re: "Ethical" heading above) a "Scientific" sub-heading under "Aspects". The three sub-headings under 'Aspects' now reflect "triple bottom line thinking" that is used by progressive environmental resource managers reflecting social (ethics is seen to encompass 'culture' here as well, often stated as the fourth bottom line), environmental (scientific - or ecological) and economic implications. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EDM843HR ( talk • contribs) 05:02, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
Hello Everyone. I have included a new section titled ‘Stakeholders’, which includes sections on the public sector, private sector and civil society. It is important to show the dynamic roles each stakeholder group plays in the management of environmental resources. KirilyS KirilyS ( talk) 11:07, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
Hello, I have changed the content under the ‘Sustainability’ heading to expand coverage. Making this section more detailed will bring a necessary emphasis to a vital aspect of Environmental Resource Management (ERM), yet will review the debate for and against to reinforce a neutral point of view (NPOV) . It is important to note that this section will cover what is needed while being kept to a minimum as to not outweigh the other aspects of the articles relevance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mokshafunk ( talk • contribs) 21:56, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
I think there needs to be an expanded section that discusses the applicable Environmental Resources Management tools available. There are so many different software applications and SaaS systems that are used by various corporations to handle their environmental liabilities, and it would be good to have more insight into what those different services are and do. For instance, I know that there is a SaaS system used by several Fortune 100 companies with large environmental liabilities to manage their environmental resources, and environmental data streams. It is ENFOS, Inc.. I would be interested to see what other systems and software applications are available.
Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Aral Sea 1989-2008.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on May 24, 2016. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2016-05-24. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. — Chris Woodrich ( talk) 00:55, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

The current opening suggests "Environmental resource management [...] is not, as the phrase might suggest, the management of the environment itself".
Shortly below, we learn "Environmental resource management [...] involves the management of all components of the biophysical environment, both living ( biotic) and non-living ( abiotic), and the relationships among all living species and their habitats."
In my understanding, the term is a contested term - and that should be indicated here much more. Instead of leaving the reader with two contradictory statements pushed by different understandings.
As a simplistic resolution, the opening might better be "Environmental resource management [...] is not limited to, as the phrase might suggest, the management of the environment itself". Ingmar.lippert ( talk) 15:42, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
I wonder about the selection of further readings. If that section has a function beyond the references, it should probably point to complementary texts that offer a range of perspectives on the topic. If you agree, I propose to point also to a text that addresses environmental resource management as an object of study/research; another text that indicates what a government expects of environmental resource management. And, I guess, as a researcher of environmental management, I have an interest in the topic and would propose to reference a collection of empirical social scientific studies of environmental (resource) management that I co-edited.
