As said before here and elsewhere, there's nothing wrong with the terminology currently being employed. Reliable citations calling East Florida a "colony" include these found in a 5-minute Google Books search. [1] [2] [3] There's no reason for the change; please stop edit warring. I wish we could use this article for present-day material. Not the precise definition it had then.

I just got 10 million hits on "East Florida." While I did not analyze them all, most seemed to be aimed at the modern definition which is the East Coast of Florida. Most people are unfamiliar with the fact that there was once a colony "officially" named "East Florida." And actually, it was not very noteworthy. I disagree. Most of the relevant hits I got on Google Books from the 21st century refer to the colony (which is notable, as judged by the various books and articles on it). [4] Some sources, such as this, continue using "East Florida" in the period after the American takeover for the part of the Florida Territory/state descended from the old East Florida settlement area. Sources that use "East Florida" just for the eastern parts of modern Florida don't have a consistent definition. I propose that this article be moved to British East Florida and a new article, Spanish East Florida, be written for the second Spanish period (1783-1820). There is no East Florida "today". That is not at all a common region or geographical identifier, as I explained above. IF the article is split, it should be into "British East Florida" and "Spanish East Florida" [or East Florida (British), etc], with the current article remaining a summary of the whole affair or converted to a dab page.-- Cúchullain ^t/ c 12:45, 29 May 2012 (UTC) reply

the article is unclear about the specific geography..as I understand it East Florida was essentially the same territory as the modern state of Florida although I could very well be wrong..West Florida was more or less the rest of the SE part of the US east of the Mississippi River not claimed by other states, countries or territories...the map in the picture is historically accurate but only shows the northern part of the Florida peninsula..I`m pretty sure East Florida extended south to Key West. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.242.102.242 ( talk) 20:44, 18 October 2014 (UTC) reply
