Interociter

There is a scene in the video of an interociter which is from the movie This Island Earth(1955) which was the movie featured in the Mystery science theater 3000 movie(1996). I thought that was interesting. Sultangris 04:26, 19 April 2007 (UTC) reply

Yeah, I noticed it too. It looks just like the one in the film. Pretty obscure reference, given that this was released 10 years before MST3K! Pimlottc 06:39, 25 May 2007 (UTC) reply

"Ice Cream Kid" reference

I removed the reference to the Grateful Eead's "Ice Cream Kid" graphic, because it's not clear at all that the scene was particularly referencing that depiction. Rather, they both likely draw upon the same source independently.

There is a very well known and old (at least as early as the 1950's), very offensive physical joke where an, ahem, "mentally challenged" (not the term used in the joke) and presumably uncoordinated boy is told that if he manages to clap his hands three times, he will be given an ice cream cone. With much difficulty, the boy manages to clap his hands three times, and when given the ice cream, the joke teller pantomimes that he misses his mouth and shoves the ice cream into his forehead.

In a video for a song called "Dare to Be Stupid," it stands to reason that the viewer is intended to recall the joke, which is based upon the subject's presumed "stupidity" rather than a 1970's Grateful Dead poster that would otherwise be completely out of place in a video whose inspiration is DEVO and 1950's Sci Fi.

Either way, it's certainly not a reference that either act would get away with referencing today!

Does Weird Al perform both of the distinct voices in this track?

I would like to add this to the article if so. 100.36.106.17 ( talk) 22:25, 21 January 2023 (UTC) reply

Honda Scooter Ad/R U Xperienced reference

At the end of the video, Weird Al could be seen with the others on a cow riding off into the distance. This could be a nod to this Shout-era Honda Scooter commercial or the beginning of the R U X-perienced? music video. Please add this to the article if it's correct.
