Could anyone give me any information about the Curitiba Cultural Foundation and any examples of their work/initiatives etc.? I can find a few reference on the net, but all in Portuguese, which I don't speak!

The “Fundação Cultural de Curitiba” is na departament of the city administration that is in charge of intermediating the cultural production (films, videos, art expositions and etc…) between the producers and the supporters (usually large companies).

There is a local law Lei Rouanet here that permits some of the money that the companies would be paying to the government to be used in cultural productions. Some of this year productions are:

Curitiba, 26 de julho de 2005.

Lets improve our city wiki !!!

Hello fellow inhabitants of Curitiba, I've just added some more info on transportation and weather, I hope you like it, I'll try to come and add some information on a regular basis, I just saw the Wiki from Munich on Germany and found it superb, we could do some improvements for Curitiba too... Mad hans 03:20, 25 September 2005 (UTC) reply

Agreed. Curitiba is by far the most advanced city in Brasil in many aspects, its article surely deserves more information. Let us also see some photos of such a marvelous city as well! I've been improving the article of my home city Belo Horizonte, and now I shall see if I can find some Curitiba pictures and add them here. Cheiro de lysoform 22:52, 31 August 2006 (UTC) reply
  • I've read the Curitiba artice due to the city's urban planning and transport network, which is cited as and example of quality and excellence. The article has a nice section on it but, in my humble oppinion, it deserves an expansion. It would be nice if someone could add more information regarding it, specially on the express bus transit system. Also, personally I believe it would be great if a picture of them was added to the article, similar to the picture showing the city's famous and uniqe bus stops. Besides that, it's a great article on a great city. Kudos! -- Mecanismo | Talk 15:43, 24 September 2006 (UTC) reply
I was born and I'm actually living in Curitiba, and could help with information on what the actual city mayor is working about on transportation. I'm by no means an expert, but as a habitant I could gladly help. Just need some help on how to -- Theprime 16:19, 17 May 2007 (UTC) reply

Transportation

"Public transportation consists entirely of buses." That's not much help in terms livability, I cannot see Curitibia winning any awards for its livability, if you don't beleive me, first condisder that "busses are boring," look at the major winners of the world's most livable city awards, Melbourne has extensive electric railed transport, trams and trains, Vancouver has trolleybusses and a skytrain, Montreal is largely in favour of underground metro rather than "boring busses." Curitibia desearves better! Myrtone (the strict Australian wikipedian) (talk)

Ok. Actually, Worldwatch Institute gave a Prize to the public transportation of Curitiba in 1991. Recently, the British National Museum of Science and Industry gave the 2001 World Technology Award for Transportation to Curitiba. In the point of livability, only no Curitiba, Jaime Lerner, the former mayor constructed it, wins a lot of prizes, too. And, many inspecting parties are sent to Curitiba by each country or city every year to inspect a lot of things. I think, attention and the evaluation to Curitiba are very high in the urban planning.-- Morio 15:45, 11 March 2006 (UTC) reply
"Interesting" doesn't mean "good". Take it from me as a Vancouverite, since you mentioned our city - Vancouver's transportation network frankly sucks and we could learn a lot from examples like Curitiba. Much like in industrial design, it's the function that's really critical. Sure, maybe SkyTrain is kinda cool, but "cool" doesn't help me when I need to get to work in a reasonable amount of time, you know? -- 199.60.112.10 ( talk) 20:55, 2 June 2009 (UTC) reply

This article is like an advertisement. The article only says good things about Curitiba, and does not talk about any problems the city is dealing with. (comment by unregistered user) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.232.5.102 ( talk) 01:54, 14 July 2010 (UTC) reply

That is because nobody has found it worthwhile adding any such problems. Like a vibrant city, a Wikipedia article does not improve by people complaining about it, but by people actively working on improving it. Anyone, including you, is free to add any noteworthy problems, as long as they are backed up by reliable sources. — Sebastian 08:32, 17 July 2010 (UTC) reply

Under section 10.4, 'Cuisine', it advertises two 'well known' Italian restaurants, 'Pizzaria Geppetto' and 'Pizzaria O forno'. Specifically naming restaurants does not illustrate any point. Mentioning Italian cusine on a page about Curitiba and Brazilian cusine is not relevant in the slightest. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.188.254.216 ( talk) 16:16, 25 February 2011 (UTC) reply

Carnival

This information about the Carnival in Curitiba is completely wrong. Just read the article in Portuguese that summer that has nothing to do [1]. Of course compared to Rio and Sao Paulo, Curitiba "no exists", but Wikipedia can not describe it figuratively, in this way. Curitiba has to samba schools! Including the samba school gospel "Jesus Bom à Beça". [2]. Quintinense ( talk) 22:02, 23 January 2011 (UTC) reply

The only previous source ( http://www.curitiba.info/carnival-curitiba.html ) for this was copy-pasted to the section and, quite frankly, the source is completely and hopelessly misleading bullshit (Curitiba has no such thing as beaches - if you want to talk about Paraná beaches, go to the respective cities' pages). In the same way, it has no Carnival too, I've commented the article out because what the section describes is Carnival in Paranaguá and Matinhos (both quite "un-Carnival"), not in Curitiba. Also, there is no reason for maintaining a section only to talk about this, so I suggest merging it with another. 201.25.164.173 ( talk) 18:23, 18 September 2012 (UTC) reply

So which do you think is the largest? Bagunceiro ( talk) 13:23, 31 January 2011 (UTC) reply
Londrina and Guarapuava are good exemples of larger cities in Paraná. CasperBraske ( talk) 16:59, 6 October 2011 (UTC) reply
Well, according to their Wikipedia articles:
Curitiba: population = 1,746,896, area = 15,417
Londrina: population = 506,645, area = 1,650
Guarapuava: population = 167,463, area = 3,115
So what do you base that on? Bagunceiro ( talk) 11:12, 7 October 2011 (UTC) reply
Well. The areas are:

Curitiba: Area

Municipality 430.9 km2

Guarapuava: Area

Total 3,115.329 km2
When it comes to area, Guarapuava is way much larger (almost 10 times), for sure and, of course, not considering the metropolitan area of Curitiba. However, for population and density, Curitiba is much "larger".

Then, what are the criteria to say that a city is larger than another one here? Best regards. CasperBraske ( talk) 15:12, 11 October 2011 (UTC) reply

Just swapping "largest" by "largest 'area'" and "largest 'population'" when needed will do the trick. 201.25.164.173 ( talk) 18:13, 18 September 2012 (UTC) reply

Curitiba is the largest city, because she has the biggest urban area. Guarapuava may be the largest municipality, which is entirely different.

Discussing city statistics is always a problem. I'm not familiar with the Brazilian designations, but I assume that "Municipality" is equivalent to the US "City", and is a purely political/governmental definition, which wouldn't mean anything to anyone roaming the streets. Metro probably means the same thing in the US, or is the same as "Urban", and is what the city really seems to be to someone on the ground. On that basis, where does Curitiba stand? Probably the most populous city in the state. If you want to see an extreme example of the difference in terminology, check out San Francisco. Nigelrg ( talk) 15:41, 21 March 2018 (UTC) reply

Alleged snowfall in Curitiba (July 2013)

The SYNOP (Mundomanz: [3]) and METAR (Wunderground: [4]) data shows that what fell in Curitiba was sleet, and not snow, as many Brazilian and international media claims (that it snowed in Curitiba).
