Since the Hahns actually lived in Morningside Park, which is south of the Baldwin Hills adjacent to the city of Inglewood, the reference to them here should perhaps be removed. -- Slightlyslack 06:20, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The James Hahn article says:

Hahn lives in the Los Angeles community of San Pedro; he was formerly married to Monica Hahn.

James Hahn moved to San Pedro when he got married. Morningside Park is in South Central, adjacent to Inglewood, and is where Kenneth Hahn lived essentially his entire life. I'm not sure if Pedro was even in Kenny Hahn's old supervisoral district. I found this out from the biographical sketch of Hahn that the LAT published a week before the runoff.-- Slightlyslack 19:14, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I;ve hcanged the bio to say that he grew up in the Morningside Park district of South Central. His elementary school is located by the 105 and 110 intersection, between Figueroa and Vermon, south of Manchester. His official bios say that he lives "with his family" in San Pedro. I think that it's Ice-T who's from Crenshaw - not Ice Cube.

Correct...Ice-T graduated from Crenshaw High School in 1976. One note: The article states that the Faithdome is located in the Crenshaw District. It was originally located on Crenshaw Blvd, hence The Crenshaw Christian Center. It is now located in the Vermont Knolls Community as is the community where James Hahn grew up. Also the area south of Manchester between Figueroa and Vermont is not Morningside Park.

This needs to be changed. When people in L.A. speak of "Crenshaw", they are referring to the Boulevard, and not the community. When people speak of the community, they will say "Crenshaw District". Therefore, it is incorrect to say James Hahn or Ice Cube are "from Crenshaw", when it is a street and a high school, and not a city or neighborhood. As it stands now, the article gives Vernon Ave as the northern boundary of Crenshaw. I don't think that's right. I've always thought anything south of the 10 and west of Jefferson Park and east of Culver City was also part of Crenshaw. If you look at the Jefferson Park article, it describes Crenshaw as being to the west of Jefferson Park.

The Baldwin Hills article says the area north of Baldwin Village is Mid-City, Los angeles, California but, the mid-city article says that Crenshaw is south of Mid-City.

Why doesn't the city of Los Angeles just declare some official boundaries?

Does anyone really think a picture of the freeway exit ramp is the most representative image of Crenshaw there is? I'm not from Crenshaw, but I think this needs to be fixed. Add a picture of some community gathering point, or some homes, or a street, or something! Not an offramp from a freeway that helped demolish part of the city.

Agree, and perhaps we can find a picture that doesn't look like it came from Dark Shadows :)

The fact that there is a dispute over whether the "Crenshaw District" is the more normal usage (I think it is) should not mean we remove this helpful information which is used by the Los Angeles Times to identify this area. I have removed the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw map and the "also see: Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw" suggestion from the top of the Crenshaw page. I have outlined a history of one user and - despite consensus - his insistence that this page reflect the the much larger area of the combined neighhorhoods of Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw.

(1) BeenAroundAWhile started a merger discussion [1]to combine the two distinct neighborhoods of Baldwin Hills and Crenshaw into the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw page that BeenAround had recently created. The response was a resounding “No”.

(2) Four months later, BeenAround overruled consensus that came out of the merger discussion, deleted the Crenshaw page, and redirected it to Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw [2] The re-direct was quickly reverted.

(3) The following month, BeenAround then went over to the Baldwin Hills page, and again, despite consensus from the merger discussion, deleted and re-directed the Baldwin Hills page to Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw. Again, the re-direct was quickly reverted.

(4) Despite it being made clear that these two distinct neighborhoods should remain separate – and not combined into one – BeenAround then added the map from the much larger Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw area to Crenshaw [3] The map was removed with the notation that it does not represent this neighborhood.

(5) BeenAround added “also see Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw” at the top of the the Crenshaw page [4] .

(6) BeenAround re-installed the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw map and it’s written boundaries to the Crenshaw page, despite the fact that the map and boundaries do not represent the Crenshaw neighborhood. [5] Phatblackmama ( talk) 23:37, 6 November 2017 (UTC) reply

Crenshaw was recently changed from being a "neighborhood" to only a "commercial thoroughfare". I have reverted it back to a "neighborhood".

On her government web page, State Rep. Karen Bass refers to neighborhoods she represents: "California’s 37th District encompasses many neighborhoods in the City of Los Angeles, including South Los Angeles, Crenshaw, Baldwin Hills, Miracle Mile, Pico-Robertson, Century City, Cheviot Hills, West Los Angeles, and Mar Vista." ^[1]. LAPD's Southwest Division serves the neighborhoods of "Adams-Normandie, Baldwin Hills, Baldwin Village, Baldwin Vista, Crenshaw, Exposition Park, Jefferson Park, Leimert Park, Union Square, University Park, Village Green, West Adams". ^[2] Curbed had chosen Crenshaw as a runner-up for "neighborhood of the year". ^[3] In 2016, the Los Angeles Times had an article on a "Promise Zone" whose "boundaries include about 200,000 residents living in parts of Crenshaw, Leimert Park, Exposition Park, University Park, Historic South-Central, Central-Alameda, Florence and downtown Los Angeles." LA Almanac sells maps that show the Crenshaw neighborhood as being south of "Leimert Park" and north of "Hyde Park". ^[4] The Thomas Guide, which is cited in numerous LA neighborhood articles, places "Crenshaw" as a neighborhood and this has long been noted in the List of districts and neighborhoods of Los Angeles. Long standing citations within this article also refer to Crenshaw as a neighborhood. "Crenshaw was at the forefront of the fair housing movement in the postwar era. After opening in 1958, Holiday Bowl became the hub of this integrated neighborhood." ^[5]

The official name that the city and state use is Crenshaw ^{[6] [7]} and neither city nor state place it inside a larger neighborhood called "Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw". Nor is that phrase used by notable sources Laist, curbed or Los Angeles magazine. Beyond the pages of the mapping project, I am even having a hard time finding the phrase "Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw" used in the LA Times newspaper itself; in 2016, it places the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall in Baldwin Hills. ^[8]
