This article oozes like a chamber of commerce brochure. It contains so many unverfied claims, uncited information spouted as fact and speculation on future events that I lost track of what year I was in while reading it. It needs major rewriting to brought up to Wikipedia standards. Also, I'm from Chula Vista... the sprawling 'McMansions' at Eastlake country club are not indicative of a "typical suburban nieghborhood in Chula Vista" I am changing the caption of that photo 67.124.202.98 15:31, 14 October 2007 (UTC) reply

  • The flag is the city seal in maroon on a white background. There is a maroon stripe along the bottom of said flag. The nickname is "Chula Juana" because of its proximity to the border, but is generally used in a derogatory fashion. - DavDaven 04:37, 3 November 2005 (UTC) reply

Has anyone heard of a baseball team, the Tijuana Toros of the Golden League coming to Chula Vista next year? The Toros didn't get the right ballpark in that side of the border. Chula Vista has a facility for a Western League team in 2001. Keep me up to date and add that announcement to the article. + 207.200.116.6 04:43, 2 November 2006 (UTC) reply
One could download the flag and the seal from the Chula Vista Gov't Webpage. But I have to wonder if the copyright law is different regarding Federal and State/local sourced images. -- 207.114.206.48 ( talk) 12:55, 4 January 2009 (UTC) reply
There is a significant difference that came up in previous edits. Federal images are free to use, however, those images from State and Local government sources remain the property of that legal entities, and one needs permission to use them, as with any copyright'd image. -- RightCowLeftCoast ( talk) 03:07, 29 June 2010 (UTC) reply

Eastlake Emancipation

Have you ever been somewhere in San Diego County and overheard or where maybe involved in a conversation when someone may ask "what city do you live in?" or "where are you from?" and people respond "Eastlake, CA" or "Eastlake" Well as we all know, Eastlake is not a city. People just want to differentiate and eloquently put it as saying they are not in Chula Vista, but indeed they are.

I live in Rancho Del Rey, my mom is in Otay Ranch, but I still represent and say Chula Vista when someone asks me where I am from. What is it with people trying to fake it like they are not part of the city? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.65.211.116 ( talkcontribs) 12:28, 30 November 2006

No mention of Chulajuana?

Wow, is this entry sugar coated! There's no mention of its derisive nickname, "Chulajuana." -- 24.249.108.133 22:04, 29 December 2006 (UTC) reply

The nickname, is derogatory and a POV statement, however, if you so still wish, you can add it to a new section in the article. -- 207.114.206.48 ( talk) 02:07, 25 December 2008 (UTC) reply

-- The nickname's also been there for decades...POV or not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.112.239.142 ( talk) 08:03, 5 December 2009 (UTC) reply

It has. However, if it is to be added it would need a verifiable reliable source reference to support the newly added content. -- RightCowLeftCoast ( talk) 08:48, 5 December 2009 (UTC) reply

Before including it in the article, I would like to reach a consensus; I have found a reliable source reference as to Chula Vista being referred to (a nickname) as "Chula-Juana". Here is the reference. Seeing as how it is used locally, but some consider it derogatory, I don't want to just add it.-- RightCowLeftCoast ( talk) 22:39, 16 January 2011 (UTC) reply

Not hearing any objections, I shall place it, with the reference in the nickname section. -- RightCowLeftCoast ( talk) 16:23, 23 January 2011 (UTC) reply

  • The nickname "Chulajuana" probably should not be in the info box-since it is considered highly offensive by many residents of the city. However, I see no reason why it shouldn't be mentioned in the body of the text, along with the reason why the city is nick named Chulajuana. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.176.116.148 ( talk) 07:58, 30 July 2011 (UTC) reply
See WP:NOTCENSORED & WP:VER. Although certain readers may find it offensive, the nickname is referenced to a highly reliable source, including the Los Angeles Times, and wikipedia is not censored. -- RightCowLeftCoast ( talk) 09:48, 30 July 2011 (UTC) reply

Population totals?

"According to the 2000 census, the city's population was 173,556."

"As of 2005 there were 173,556 people, 57,705 households, and 43,567 families residing in the city"

It is very hard to accept that both of this statements could be true; identical populations 5 years apart. Dbiel ( Talk) 01:32, 30 May 2007 (UTC) reply

Assessment

Reset class to match edit note of Cashman. This page falls short of "B" for following reasons:

  • Not useful to all readers. Anyone seeking data on natural features, infrastructure, transportation and many other topics will be left in the cold.
  • Referencing is incredibly light for a city article. A "B" class article would typically have three to six times as many references Feralfeline 04:44, 16 September 2007 (UTC) reply

Spanish translation

In the "History" section, the article gives the translation as "beautiful view" while I am quite sure that it actually means "cute view" or something similar. I am not sure, so if anyone can verify this and fix the article, it would be helpful. Shannon1 talk contribs 03:20, 30 May 2009 (UTC) reply

Chula Vista does translate to "Beautiful View," and not "cute view." No verification needed, since that is common knowledge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.10.230.146 ( talk) 17:52, 1 December 2009 (UTC) reply

I believe that the translation has been disputed in the past, and thus the request for a verified reliable source reference. -- RightCowLeftCoast ( talk) 19:38, 1 December 2009 (UTC) reply

Look it up in a Spanish dictionary. That is as common knowledge as you can get! In MOST cases, it does translate to "Beautiful View." I'm sure that the town (before it was a city), was named that after "Beautiful View," "Pretty View," or "Brilliant View," and not the other slang terms associated with "chula," like "girlfriend," "pimp," or "rascal." 24.177.37.156 ( talk) 18:27, 30 December 2009 (UTC) reply

Another issue: I don't have a reference, but I believe the Spanish for "beautiful view" would be "vista chula", since Spanish adjectives normally follow the word they modify. This looks to me like pseudo-Spanish: the parts are Spanish, but they're put together in in the order for English. Chuck Entz ( talk) 20:33, 6 May 2017 (UTC) reply

Crime

I think a small section on crime would be appropriate, since Chula Vista does have a significant amount of crime in the west side neighborhoods of Otay, Harborside, and other areas west of Broadway. Even more significant though, is that the crime in Otay and Harborside have fallen since the 1970's and 1980's (with spikes in the early 1990's and early 2000's). Although it's not Compton, Chula Vista's crime average is slightly higher than the national average. One of the oldest gangs in San Diego County hails from Chula Vista (Varrio Otay, circa 1920's/1930's). 24.177.37.156 ( talk) 18:37, 30 December 2009 (UTC) reply

Sustainability

Should the new content be included as a general article about the city? It feels a bit to me like it might fall under WP:ADVERTISING for the awarding organization. Locally I haven't heard about this award until it was added onto here. -- RightCowLeftCoast ( talk) 08:32, 3 February 2011 (UTC) reply

It does look like advertisement but maybe we could make an awards section maybe. Spongie555 ( talk) 23:19, 3 February 2011 (UTC) reply
That sounds like a good compromise. However, I have to wonder, are there other awards that Chula Vista, as a city and not just the government of, have been awarded to warrant an awards section? Is there precedents with other articles for cities for an awards section (for I have not seen one with other similar articles)? -- RightCowLeftCoast ( talk) 22:23, 4 February 2011 (UTC) reply
Looking at other city article they don't really have award sections. Also I don't know of any other awards te city has received unless you count the little league world series title which is a team sport award for representing chula vista. Spongie555 ( talk) 08:30, 13 February 2011 (UTC) reply

Sunny Vista?

While trying to find a RS to support the naming of interstate 5 south of downtown as "Montgomery freeway" I stumbled upon a map hosted by the CSUSM server. There it depicts an area which appears to be where the current interstate 805 is on named "Sunny Vista". Anyone else know anything about it? Anyone have an issue with me restructuring this article as per Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline. I won't be changing any content, merely the order. Occasionally, I will also move a picture just to clean up spacing issues. I've already gone through the top 20 or so on the above list, if you'd like to see how they turned out. Thoughts? Many of them have improved the articles you have added them to. My concern is that some of the photos you have added to articles are not "the best quality images", per MOS:IMAGEQUALITY. I have expressed this to you before at Talk:Biloxi, Mississippi#File:Biloxi,_Mississippi_Skyline.jpg. The skyline image on the right was taken on an overcast day--as Cristiano Tomás mentioned--and even after downloading the image and correcting it in two different imaging programs, I was still left with a photo of rooftops.
