Requested move 3 April 2024

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. The only opposition to the move was on the grounds that the proposed title is not the subject's full birth name, but supporters convincingly showed that it's a widely used stage name, thereby establishing a consensus for the move under WP:COMMONNAME and WP:STAGENAME. Cheang Pou-soiSoi Cheang – According to many sources, his official name is Soi Cheang. [1] [2] [3] Marychan41 ( talk) 12:38, 3 April 2024 (UTC) — Relisting.  microbiologyMarcus petri dish· growths 16:10, 10 April 2024 (UTC) reply

Even Cannes Film Festival just used "Soi Cheang" as his official name. [4] And since there is no objection since 3 April 2024, I hope this discussion can be closed and the page can be moved. Marychan41 ( talk) 10:57, 11 April 2024 (UTC) reply
  • Oppose. The government-documented full name of the person is "Cheang Pou-soi" (Source: HKSAR Government Press Release, Hong Kong Film Development Council, Hong Kong Film Archive, Health Bureau). He also uses this name on many occasions. Etymologically speaking, the name "Cheang Pou-soi" is the Cantonese Pinyin transliteration of his official Chinese name (鄭保瑞). "Soi Cheang" is just shorthand of writing his full name. Cfls ( talk) 22:25, 12 April 2024 (UTC) reply
Buy Wikipedia generally use stage names on the titles (instead of real names). Stars like Tom Cruise and Nicolas Cage have stage names that are different from real names, and their stage names are on the titles of Wikipedia pages. Wikipedia also generally use current stage names on the titles (instead of the old ones); Johnnie To and Chloe Bennet changed their stage names during their careers, and their current stage names are on the titles of their pages.
Soi Cheang is his current official stages name. His official book (which featuring interviews with Cheang and his working partners) was released in 2023, and the book title is "Soi Cheang, Filmmaker in Focus". [5] Marychan41 ( talk) 00:15, 13 April 2024 (UTC) reply

  • Support: Cheang has been using "Soi Cheang" as his official stage name for long time (at least since 2009 [6]). Wikipedia page should use his official stage name as the title instead of the real name, as it was the approach in many other Actors and Filmmakers biography pages in wikipedia. For example, Drake (musician) changed his stage name after left Degrassi: The Next Generation [7], and his current stage name is on his page's title.
